The genres grew in popularity and the theater allowed people to come express themselves and their talents.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The original cotton club had a massive impacts in the Harlem renaissance, it was an extremely popular nighttime club to go to and their were so many African American entertainers that later became very prominent. The thing that made this place so important in Harlem's history is that these African American performers were able to express themselves and be creative and they were performing in front of a white audience. Some of the most famous performers their were Duke Ellington, and Cab Callaway. This club was a hot spot during the time and was simply a place for entertainment and no other worries.</div>]]></description>

Hughes was a social activist, novelist, and American icon of the Renaissance. Langston Hughes is most widely known for his poems the most popular being "Harlem" written in 1951 this poem expresses how Harlem felt and what they were fighting for, it displays Harlem as the heart and soul of African American history, it talks about the unattainable dreams that people have and shows the disadvantages to having to big of a dream. He brought African American issues into the light to help spread awareness.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Zora Neale Hurston was an icon and role model in the Harlem renaissance, she advocated for African American rights and women's rights, she wanted to fight for racial justice and prove that society has been skewed for far to long. She also contributed through Novels and folklore writing. Her most famous book is "Their Eyes were Watching God" in this book she expresses life in the black south, she shows all the racial and gender injustices through the love stories of a character named Janie who ends up finding her true self and being exactly who she wants to be. Zora's work showed just how mistreated so many people were and showed how things could be better if people just found their voice and identity.</div>]]></description>

During this time African Americans were all about self expression, activism, pride in heritage and creativity. African Americans began to advocate for their rights and expressed their hardships, lives, and heritage through writing, art, and music. Their culture really began to come to life and through this America became less divided. The U.S went crazy over Jazz, swing R&amp;B, and the blues all types of people would gather and just enjoy music. The Harlem renaissance pushed people to just enjoy life in all of its creativity and even celebrate the hard times because they progressed.</div>]]></description>
