The book "Saving Our Planet" was written by Mandy Archer and illustrated by Louise Forshaw. The book was published by Pat-A-Cake. This book introduces children to the many various ways our planet is being harmed and the little things we can do to save our planet, such as putting rubbish into the correct bin, switching electrics off when not in use, walk or cycle more to prevent vehicle fumes polluting the air and turning off the tap when brushing your teeth.

This book links to many of the Sustainable Developmental Goals, such as SDG 3 "Good Health and Well-being", as the book promotes walking and cycling as opposed to travelling in a vehicle, this reduces the amount of fumes and pollution in our air

. SDG 6 "Clean Water and Sanitation", as the book shows children how to dispose of rubbish correctly therefore it wont end up in our ocean, rivers, lakes and drinking water supplies. SDG 7 "Affordable Clean Energy", this book teaches children to switch off appliances, other electrics and water when they are not being used. SDG 13 "Climate Action", by reducing our harmful habits such as the ones previously named, we will be helping the environment and preventing further risks of climate change. SDG 14 "Life Below Water", as stated previously, reducing the the amount of rubbish that ends up in our oceans, rivers and lakes helps the life below water live in a clean, safe environment and reduces the risk of extinction. SDG 15 "Life on Land", also by disposing of rubbish properly and efficiently, reducing the pollution in the air, switching off unused appliances and many more, we are helping the many species of life on land

The first activity I have created is to teach children a fun way of correctly disposing rubbish. I used coloured paper to distinguish each type of bin for example blue paper is for glass, green paper is for recycling, black is for compost and pink is for general waste. I then used various materials such as cut out pictures of food, glass etc. and other appropriate materials to let the children arrange the materials and put them into the correct bin.

For my second activity I asked the children to draw me a picture of what they think represents recycling and other ways to save our planet. They chose to draw a recycling logo, bins such as a compost bin, pictures showing that a tap should not be left running when not in use, turning off a lights witch, a person disposing of rubbish correctly and a person littering with an "X" beside it representing this is wrong.

For my third activity I asked the children what they would like to do, they chose gardening so we decided to plant some flowers. One of the children also suggested we plant the seeds of an apple they were eating.

Overall, the activities went very well among the children. They gained a deeper understanding of how important it is to help save our planet. They understood that even the little things such as the correct disposal of rubbish, switching off unused electrical appliances, and turning off the tap when not using the water can make a huge impact in the world. They now enjoy the idea of recycling and take it very seriously. This will be a huge benefit for them as they get older as it is the world they are creating for themselves.

My fourth activity was to help children pick up any rubbish in our vicinity. This taught them that even if it is not your rubbish they can still pick it up and dispose of it to help save our world.
