As I read Hillbilly Elegy, I found myself hearing Vance's story while also seeing many issues from a Democrat v. Republican Economic viewpoint. And while I was doing this, I almost always assumed that Vance was conveying a story with a more liberal bent. This article challenged that my perception, especially with the admission that Vance is "a conservative Republican." This just goes to show that American economic policy is far from a left v. right issue. Indeed, improving the American economy should be something that goes to help people advance economically through hard work and common-sense economic reforms. (Drew Coyne)
