Playing Video Games

My biggest time waster is playing video games with my friends. The biggest issue with this is the fact that this is my main and pretty much only source of socialization with the quarantine, so my reliance on this time waster almost feels like an essential part of my day now. This has a negative impact on my leadership skills due to the fact that I am wasting time, but because of nature of the games my friends and I play, I feel as if I do get to apply my leadership skills to the games and the situations we get into in a minor way.

https://www.pexels.com/photo/closeup-photography-xbox-one-black-controller-159369/

Sleep

My second biggest time waster is sleep. Often times I will avoid responsibilities or problems by just going to sleep instead of dealing with them. This definitely has a negative impact on my leadership skills because this is almost like an escape for when I don't want to do something, which isn't productive.

https://www.shutterstock.com/search/sleeping+cartoon

As a personal hobby, it does not contribute to my leadership skills, but in terms of collaborative projects involving music with my friends, I would say this time waster is my biggest source of leadership experience.

One of my guitars

Going On My Phone

Going on my phone is another big time waster of mine. Whether I'm going on social media or watching YouTube, I can spend several hours doing nothing but wasting time with my phone, especially if I'm talking to someone on Face Time. This does not benefit my leadership skills at all other than giving me more experience with communication and building connections with other people.

https://nafme.org/social-media-boon-nemesis/apple-iphone-7-ion-office-desk-with-icons-of-social-media-facebook-instagram-twitter-snapchat-application-on-screen-social-network-starting-social-media-app-photo-taken-at-company-office/

"You cannot plow a field simply by turning it over in your mind" - Gordon B. Hinckley

This quote was my favorite because it describes a situation I find myself in a lot. I will start envisioning my end goal so much that I forget that I have responsibilities to tackle on the way to reach that goal, or in other words attempting to plow the field by turning it over in my mind.

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/124200902201807869/

Eliminating distractions is a very important habit to get down in order to avoid time wasters. Even things as simple as a notification on your phone can lead to you wasting more time than you need to, so in this example, you would turn your phone off. This strategy can impact your leadership skills by allowing you to focus on more important things and learning how to balance things that are important and/or urgent with things that aren't important and/or urgent

http://welikeyou.social/2017/03/07/9-must-have-apps-for-your-iphone-to-survive-the-social-media-jungle/

The third helpful strategy that helps me is taking smart, reasonable breaks. If you devote an entire day to working on one project or responsibility, you're going to get burnt out. This strategy can teach you how to manage time effectively outside of just being aware of time wasters because you can get experience with taking time for yourself while still being productive

https://yespress.info/new-cliparts/break-time-sign-clipart.htm

One helpful strategy to deal with time wasters is to plan your day as thoroughly as possible. It helps me to have an exact idea of what my day needs to look like so I know exactly when I am wasting time compared to when I'm not. This strategy can help expand your experience in planning out and envisioning your goals and how to achieve them.

https://pixabay.com/illustrations/weekly-planner-planner-weekly-5058720/
