"I'm cool by default because I'm one of the only black kids there." -Chapter One.

This quote from the book "The Hate U Give" stood out to me because of how confident the character was, and how they know right from wrong. Their proud to be black.

"Don't let them put words in your mouth. God gave you a brain. You don't need theirs." -Chapter Four.

To me this quote from the book "The Hate U Give" means that, you shouldn't not defend yourself, meaning you should because the more you don't, the more it keeps happening. I think that the "God gave you a brain. You don't need theirs." means that like you shouldn't half to care what their ( brain ) is thinking or maybe even saying about you.

"Funerals aren't for dead people. They're for the living." -Chapter Eight.

To me this quote from the book "The Hate U Give" means that just because you're living doesn't mean your happy or wanting to be alive because of society? In this case because of racism. The "Funerals aren't for dead people." part means ( to me ) that even if your not alive, you still live on. Your alive mentally, but physically dead if that makes sense, like your soul lives on, and you're probably at your funeral too - "They're for the living."

"If bravery is a medical condition, everybody's misdiagnosed me." -Chapter Sixteen.

To me this quote from the book "The Hate U Give" means that the character is brave. Very brave, and nobody else sees it other than themselves.

"People like us in situations like this become hashtags, but they rarely get justice. I think we all wait for that one time though, that one time when it ends right." -Chapter Four.

To me this quote from the book "The Hate U Give" means that colored people, aren't getting justice no matter how many hashtags there are. The part of the quote that states "I think we all wait for that one time, that one time when it ends right." means ( to me ) that one day it could end, all racism will and could end, and their won't be any needs for those hashtags for justice. "When it ends right."
