-Blanche is of German and French origin and means white, or pure. DuBois is of French and English origin, and refers to a woodcutter or someone who lived in the woods.

-Blanche is first described in scene one: "She is daintily dressed in a white suit with a fluffy bodice, necklace and earrings of pearl, white gloves and hat, looking as if she were arriving at a summer tea or cocktail party in the garden district. She is about five years older than Stella. Her delicate beauty must avoid a strong light" (3).

-Blanche's theme song would be "Always Remember us this Way" by Lady Gaga from A Star is Born because it represents her life after her husband killed himself, as that is what this song represents for the main character in the movie. The lines "So when I'm all choked up / But I can't find the words / Every time we say goodbye / Baby, it hurts" show her attachment to Allan and illustrate how she was affected by her loss of him.

-Blanche wants a life of fantasy and desire and perfection. She wishes that the scam of reality would leave her alone and that all of the lies and scenarios she creates were true. Most of all, she wants someone to love and someone to love her. Her incredible loneliness is shown through her almost desperateness with Mitch and her struggles with alcohol.

-1. One quote that truly shows Blanche's desperation for a fantasy life is shown through her saying, "I don't want realism. I want magic!" (127) .
2.  A second quote that further illustrates her wishful characteristics and desire to create a new life through lies is shown through, "I know I fib a good deal. After all, a woman's charm is fifty percent illusion, but when a thing is important I tell the truth, and this is the truth" (37). This proves further that Blanche attempts to will a fantasy life into existence, but still stays true to her character in trying times. 
3. A third quote that represents Blanche is when she says, "Sick people have such deep, sincere attachments" (52). This quote is not referring to Blanche herself in the play, but describes what she is going through. Blanche became mentally sick after the death of her husband, and formed attachments to his memory, alcohol, and any man she could form a connection with.

-Blanche works extremely hard to maintain her feminine appearance and continually flirts with the men in the play, most prominently Stanley and Mitch. She works to maintain an outward appearance of flirtatiousness and confidence, but in private is mentally exhausted and worn down, and allows her worries to consume her. 

- Blanche uses words like "pretty," "honey," "little," and "sweetie" to maintain her distinct flirtatious demeanor and femininity. She also giggles and laughs often, especially at or with the men, again illustrating her need to flirt with them. Additionally, though this is not necessarily specific, she banters with the male characters often, especially Stanley, whether to flirt or not.

-I feel sympathy for Blanche to a certain extent. She lost almost everything, and her life was uprooted, and for that I sympathize greatly with her. However, she was rude, insulting, and selfish to nearly all the people she interacts with, especially Stella. We know that Blanche does want to protect Stella, but she treats her with very little respect. Her character almost reminds me of Severus Snape from the Harry Potter series. Both suffer tragedy and work to overcome hardships and protect those around them. However, both characters are pretty awful to those around them.
