Holden is constantly trying to "Run Away" From his problems. In the beginning of the book he runs away from the school problems.
He also runs away from his family problem because he feels that he doesn't fit in. He also runs away from his problems with Stradlater because of the fight that he lost. Drinking and getting drunk is the way he runs away from his problems.

In the song Eminem is talking about his very close friend that he lost. This relates to Cather in the rye because of Holden and how he lost his brother Allie. Allie was the only thing that Holden cared about in his world as he explained to Phoebe.
Loosing Allie turned the world into a depressing place, turning Holden into the kid he was in the novel.

Throughout the book calling someone is a big deal for Holden. He always picks up the phone but never ends up calling anyone because he doesn't know who to call. He wishes he had someone to call or someone to call him. That is why he calls sally and tries to call others throughout the book.
