Job Profile:

• _{Read blueprints or drawings to calculate materials needed}

• _{Lay out patterns, forms, or foundations according to plans}

• _{Break or cut materials to required size}

• _{Mix mortar or grout and spread it onto a slab or foundation}

• _{Clean excess mortar with trowels and other hand tools}

• _{Construct masonry walls}

• _{Align structures, using levels and plumbs}

• _{Clean and polish surfaces with hand tools or power tools}

• _{Fill expansion joints with caulking materials}

• _{Lay out and install rain-screen water systems.}

Job Skills:

• _{Ability to work at heights. Masonry workers often use scaffolding, so they should be comfortable working at heights.}

• _{Color vision. Masonry workers need to be able to distinguish between small variations in color when setting terrazzo patterns in order to produce the best looking finish.}

• _{Dexterity. Masonry workers must be able to place bricks, stones, and other materials with precision.
  Hand-eye coordination. Masonry workers need to apply smooth, even layers of mortar; set bricks; and remove any excess before the mortar hardens.}

• _{Physical stamina. Masonry workers must keep up a steady pace while setting bricks, and the constant lifting can be tiring.}

• _{Physical strength. Masonry workers should be able to lift more than 50 pounds. They carry heavy tools, equipment, and other materials, such as bags of mortar and grout.}

In 1890, two brothers—Jesse and Lester Williams—began making their first plastering trowels in their newly established machine and repair shop. When you register you will be given a number of a learning pod where you will begin.

The learning pods are divided into two groups:

LP1 - LP 6

LP 7 - LP 12

You will rotate in numerical order within your group.

• Example: LP 1 goes to LP 2

• Example: LP 12 goes to LP 7

Each learning pod is 12 minutes long. A horn will sound indicating the start and end of the learning pod. Keep an ear out for it :-)
