1. A state in India, Kerala, put the majority of it's government funding into schools and clinics, in the hopes of increasing female literacy rates in the country. This was successful with the literacy rate now being 94% as opposed to 74% in the rest of the country.

2. This relates to gender equality as typically in India, women tended to be less educated than men, thus having less opportunities and perhaps being more venerable to human trafficking and the promises of a well paying job (for example). Therefore this policy focuses greatly on improving the education of women to make sure they have more or less the same opportunities as men, and are therefore less inclined to take jobs that might result in them becoming trafficking victims.

1. Kerala has focused on raising female literacy rates by funding hospitals and schools for women. This was successful as Kerala's literacy rates are 94%; national average of 74%. This resulted in education providing a defence against exploitation by human trafficking.
2. This relates to gender equality because traditionally in India, girls were denied an education however, Kerala were giving equal opportunities to all genders for education.

1. In Kerala 47% of hospitals are In a 12 km radius from rural areas unlike the rest of India which only have 12%. The leaders of Kerala invest their money in education and healthcare increasing the female literacy rate.

2. On average more men are educated than woman, but because the government is investing a substantial mount of money on education the highly dense female population in Kerala is now able to attend school getting an education increasing their literacy rates.

1. As India is a major source, transit and destination country for human trafficking, a policy was created in Kerala (a state in Southern India) in hopes of raising the female literacy rate. The policy turned out to be successful, as the female literacy rate there is now at 94% while in the rest of India it is at 74%.

2. Relates to gender equality as the policy focuses on bettering the education for women specifically, who tend to have less opportunities than men.

1. Kerala raised literacy of females. This was because it was believed that the lowering fertility rate and preventing human trafficking was to do with the literacy rate. This was very successful. Mass education was the center of the policy and the majority of the populations was Christians which allowed this policy to be executed.
2. The policy is highly related to to gender equality. Firstly, the policy aimed to raise literacy rates of female. This will help the educated women to be more influential and have prestige in a community. Also, and mainly, it is related to the gender equality because of its purpose. The purpose was to lower fertility rate and prevent human trafficking. This allows women to be healthy and protect themselves.

1. Kerala paid particular attention to raising female literacy rates. This was successful as 92% of all women aged 15+ in Kerala are literate. Studies show that education makes mothers less fatalistic about illness, bolder to question their mother-in-law's authority, more demanding of better health care and better food for their children.
2. This relates to gender equality as traditionally, Indian girls were often denied an education. Focusing on changing that means that they are trying to bring about equality. Having educated females in the society will mean that they will have more influence on the changes made in society. The more educated a female population, the less vulnerable they are.
