Recharger: I went back and forth a few times between the Recharger and the Explorer -- I definitely have a strong sense of curiosity when I go to a new museum, and often the thing that gets me to take the time out of the day to visit a museum is a desire to learn about the objects they have in their collection. However, every time I've really connected to a museum it has felt like it went beyond an intellectual level, and what I walk away from it with is more-so a sense of calm or wonder rather than just some satisfied sense of exploration. I am also most drawn to the types of museums associated with the Recharger, specifically art museums and botanical gardens.

I think this description fits the way that I like to experience cultural things in general: I just love to explore new things and learn without really having a plan. I absolutely love museums, but I wouldn't discount myself as a sort of "regular" museum-goer-- just a person who is curious about the subject matter and goes there to learn.

I think it's not about where to go, but who to go with. Therefore, I am very concerned about spending time with others, usually accompanying others to the museum. I like the romantic atmosphere of the aquarium. When I get along with friends and lovers, I especially like to go to the aquarium and art gallery.

Every time I'm traveling, I'll make sure that I get to hit all the major museums first because I genuinely believe that I can learn the heart and soul of the place in the museum. Whether it is just a generic natural history museum or the one with specific topic that is unique to the local area. The minor reason is that it is air-conditioned and quiet. Somewhere I can go and spend all day at my own pace and don't have to pay attention to the surrounding as much when I'm outside.

I would say I am mainly an explorer, but also a bit of a professional hobbyist as I am gaining more experience working in museums and classes related to my interests. I say that I'm an explorer most of the time because when I visit museums, I like to look at all of the content presented without having to be rushed so I can observe and learn something new. But I am also becoming somewhat of a professional hobbyist regarding museums as I work with the birds at MNH and gain experience with primary documents in archives via my history classes. I start to look at museums and see if they can apply at all to the things I've been learning and if the information corroborates what I've learned to be true, and seek out a particular exhibit that pertains to my interest. For example, going to the zoo now doesn't really appeal to me but if they have lots of birds, I am interested because I want to see how they managed to organize and collect the data on their birds, and what the museum has to say about the exhibit.

I always find that museums are somewhere I can calm myself down, stay away from the outside world and talk to my inner. I like to visit museums on my own quietly and my top choice of museum is art museum. If there's an exhibition of an artist that I like. I would go see his/her exhibition first. When I look at an artwork, I would think about the story behind it. I would also look at the methods that's used and what makes it special. After the visit, I would feel satisfied and motivated.

I have always just liked to learn almost anything and everything. I am also a bit of an experience seeker. I want to visit as many museums as I can and see how they are different. I’m always curious to see if there will be anything that the museum does that amazes me or that has great meaning to me. I’m especially intrigued by exhibits that evoke emotions not only in me, but with the majority of people that visit. I like to analyze these exhibits to think about how they are reaching their audiences and what tools they are using that works so well with a broad variety of people.

Explorer: This was tough because I can see a little of each type in the way I experience museums, but I best fit in the explorer category. I like visiting different types of museums because I have a generic interest in many subjects and a desire to discover something new about everything. On my visits, I don't feel the need to cover every inch of the museum, I just want to find something new and exciting that will stick with me. That said, I will visit a museum multiple times because it offers a familiar experience but also something new each time. I see museums as a unique way to learn and I am always surprised how they tie into my previous education and experiences.
This picture is from the Parthenon in Nashville, TN. It's a full-scale replica of the Greek Parthenon structure with an art museum inside where they have the old, original pediments from the 1897 Centennial Exposition on display. I learned about this specific part of the pediment (Three Goddesses) in my art history class so it was such a cool find!

Museums can have so much learning and education to offer and that for me is one of the coolest things about them. This part of my love for museums is in the 'explorer' category. I also like museums because they give visitors a quiet place to reflect and observe exhibits and art. Museums can become peaceful places for me because there is no chaos and only space for reflection.

I think of myself mostly as an Explorer with a dash of Recharger. I'm a generally curious person and love learning about new things in a contemplative environment. I assume that if I visit a museum I will be able to be captured by at least some aspect of an exhibit and I can then dive in to learning about it at my leisure. Places like art museums satisfy this itch because they are generally set up so that I can decide what to focus and spend time on while I'm their. I let my curiosity guide me in whatever direction I feel like taking during a particular visit. The Recharger aspect I also identify with because visiting a good museum can be a refreshing and contemplative experience, I can separate myself from daily worries and immerse myself in an intellectual experience.

I see myself as an experience seeker because I do certain things just to say I've done them. I am very socially motivated in the trips I take. I like to say that I have been there done that. I would also say I'm in the professional hobbies group as well. I do everything with a goal in mind. When I vacation I want to do something that most of the other visitors are not doing, I want to get the most out of my vacation to say that I've been there and done that. An example that would put me under both of these groups is when I went to St Maarten last spring break on a cruise we were always doing something other than just relaxing on the beach. We rode on jet skis around about half of the island and then rode horse on the beach. I did those things to just check them off my list and do something I can't do at home. Vacation for me isn't about relaxing it is about doing something I couldn't do at home.

I'm an explorer/recharger hybrid, for sure. Not only do I love learning in an unstructured environment, like a museum, I love just sitting and soaking it all in. Museums have this ability to transform you as a person, and I feel like the best way to do that is by taking a day to yourself, alone in a museum, just to wander and enjoy. Plus, when you spend this quality alone time, you can learn so much more than going with other people, I believe.

I would say I am more of an explorer than anything else. I love to learn new things. I'm constantly asking myself questions about stuff and looking them up, and going to a museum is a way to learn in a hands on way. Just going to a museum on a random day without planning on it is always a fun way to learn something. For example, this summer my family and I went to New York City. We had some free time, and decided to go to the Natural History Museum. While being there, I learned a lot of stuff I didn't know about before, all on just a random exploration of a museum.

I think that I consider myself a combination of an Explorer and a Recharger; I find that, even when museums are busy, I am able to relax and enjoy myself, however I typically go to museums to learn more, both whether out of a desire to know more about a particular topic, and a general desire to learn more to improve myself. Typically when I travel I try to visit museums, due to the originality exhibited by them - there hasn't been a museum that has been alike to another that I have visited.

I would consider myself to be a recharger, with a little bit of explorer. I love to learn new things, but I also like to meander through museums. I usually decide what I look at based on the amount of people surrounding the exhibit (the less people, the better) and I'm happy to learn about whatever I happen across. I do find myself gravitating more towards botanical gardens and zoos as I like the free flowing aspect. I am also more than happy to just kind of wander around by myself and see what I happen to find.

I would say that I am mostly an explorer with a little bit of experience seeker in me. I haven't really been that many museums but when I go I am always very intrigued when visit. I like to learn about new things especially when a lot of people don't know of them or about them. I really like to explore zoos because I find animals fascinating. I love learning more about them and watching them interact with each other. However, since I don't go to many museums, that is where I would say my experience seeker comes into play. Once I've been there, I feel like I've pretty much been there and done that, besides visiting the animals at the zoo because they are just too cool.

I am both an explorer and hobbyist type. Whenever I am in a museum I am always incredibly interested by everything around me, I want to learn as much as I can from everything. In my more recent museum visits for the exhibit essay I have been following the video we watched earlier in the semester on how to visit a museum. I walk around the entire museum first and note things that I find interesting along the way and then come back to them and view them more in depth. I feel in that way of viewing everything for a moment I am an explorer but with the second part I find I'm a hobbyist as all things I come back to see, seem to have a specific theme.
