I originally did a heart and neighborhood map to generate ideas. I then did the hand map with the emotions to think deeper about memories. As I read mentor text I was able to edit my pieces and add more detail or narrow in on what I wanted to say or express to my readers. I love Kate Dicamillo, I have read many of her books. I used the Because of Winn Dixie excerpt in D2L to help me get a feel for how I wanted to write my narrative. Her writings are so detailed and moving, it helped me to think nostalgically back to that point in my life. After I decided on the topic for my narrative it gave me an idea for my opinion. I then used the 6 Room Poetry to get ideas to formulate ideas for my poem.It again stemmed back to the theme in my narrative. The last genre I wrote was my letter, it just formulated naturally after I started reflecting on my narrative and why that time spent during the move was so important to me.
    At first it seemed awkward to connect feelings to my writing for a class. Honestly knowing someone would be reading them made me hold back on a lot of my emotions and what I really wanted to express. However, it felt really freeing to get my words down so it encouraged me to start a personal journal. I have always kept a prayer journal but now I am keeping one of just my thoughts and feelings. It honestly has helped me through the last few hard months. All of the graphic organizers helped to generate ideas and feelings. Memories from years ago came flooding to my mind as I did the neighborhood and hand map. The genre I enjoyed most was the narrative and poem. I liked reliving an event from my childhood. I could have filled pages with details from that road trip that all the sudden popped into my head, even down to what my brother was wearing and how I braided my hair. The poem helped me to put my feelings into words in a way that I did not feel exposed because it could be more subjective by the reader. The genre I like the least was the opinion. I think I liked this least because this genre needs more research.Even though mentor text are used with other genres as well, opinion or persuasive seem to need more work to find evidence.To me they just are not as fun to write. 
  I have taken away many good ideas for my own classroom. The idea generating is so important in all the genres. The different maps or organizers can help my students get ideas to write about. They can revisit the neighborhood or hand map as we move on to other pieces. I hope to teach upper grade level, specifically 4th. In that grade they have a poetry unit, I really like the 6 room poem idea to help students create a poem. The over all use of mentor text will be important in my future class. I also hope to allow a specific time for quick writes. This helped me this semester when it came time to write longer pieces. 
  I used Padlet for this assignment which is fairly new to me. It is user friendly, I was able to log on from my computer or phone to upload pictures and edit the text. I am not crazy about the layout for this assignment. I think something that flipped might have made more sense rather than a long stream or writing.
