Voice Acting is a career in which you, well, act with your voice. It puts your voice behind what is a generally animated character. It fits under the voice-over industry, which includes things like dubbing, broadcasting, etc.

As a voice actor, what you'll do is first, audition for a role and show your skills with what they require. After you get the role, you'll be given a script, and it's your job to act as if you're the person you're acting, and not just the voice behind it. While also listening to any suggestions your director may have.

What are the physical conditions?

The physical conditions of a VA are pretty simple, you'll generally be inside a booth standing and talking into a microphone. You could also technically count the audition as something you have to travel for.

What skills are required?

You must be cooperative, as you'll have to listen to anything your director might say, and you might have to do a huge amount of takes for even just one line. You also must have confidence, since the job is about putting your voice out there. And of course you need to be able to act as well.

You actually don't need any training/education to be a voice actor. It is in any aspiring VA's interest to take acting classes or do something related to drama, but it is unnecessary.

Honestly, aside from taking a drama class or two in high school, I'd actually suggest taking a Voice Acting course online. While some courses do cost money, which could be anywhere from $20-$250, there are many good courses online that are completely free.

What is the average salary at entry level and at a more experienced level

At an entry-level, Voice actors make $15-$20 and hour. While a more experienced or advanced voice actor can make anywhere from $50/hr or more

What are the job prospects? Will there actually be job openings?

The job is just getting more needed over time, with the rise in popularity of things like animations, video games, and voice acted movies, not to mention that advertisements need them as well. With that said, there will probably be many job openings in the future, as long as you take the initiative to audition.

Where are the most job openings located?

While there are in-person gigs, most jobs can be auditioned for online. But when talking about in-person, places like New York City and Los Angeles have many jobs.

In Canada, Ontario is the place to go.

Why do I think I'm suited for this career?

I'll be honest, it's because I like it. Out of every career I've considered, this is one of the only two I like. Not to mention that in the past 3-4 years, I've only been watching voice-acted shows, and semi-recently I've started using them to learn and observe different techniques. I have the drive, and I genuinely aspire to become one, what else do you need to be suited?
