1. Summary
- The Oxford leather shoes remind the son of his father, his absence in the family. He wonders what his father is doing, he knows that they are under the "same moon" at night. He remembers his past, the room that he used to sleep in, the Palooka comics and his other belongings, he remembers the way things used to be.
2. Significant passages
- "Tonight they smelled like nothing. The week before they had still smelled of his father but tonight the smell of his father was gone."
3. Analysis
- The boy doesnt let go the memory of his father, he is hopeful that he will be able to see him again someday. The leather oxfords are reminiscent of his father, the smell that they used to contain would remind the boy of his father. But now that the smell is gone, so is his father.

1. Summary
- The boy is imagining the different ways in which his father could return, what kind of transportation/clothes/attitude he will come back with. He has high hopes that his father is going to come back, he doesnt see it happening any other way. He wants to relive the moments he had with his father, he doesnt feel well adjusted to his current situation.
2. Significant Passages
- " "Papa," he'd say. "what is it?" "You forgot to put on your shoes" "
3. Analysis
- The son imagines himself in a scenario in which he has to remind his father to put on his shoes, likely because the son wants things to be exactly like they used to be, the fathers shoes remind the son about him every time.
