         <description><![CDATA[<p>After reviewing the resources in this unit, I am thankful that these topics are discussed openly and focused on the counselor. One of the resources that kept my attention was from Green Cross Academy of Traumatology, Standards of Self Care Guidelines. What stood out to me was that it is unethical not to attend to your self care. As I continued reading, it was convincing that caring for ourselves isn't something that we should do, but something that we must do in order to fulfill our duties and obligations as counselors. I never really looked at it from that point of view until today.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Self-care is a crucial of the helping profession because we cannot provide adequate and appropriate care if we are experiencing profound stresses from our career, and not balancing our personal life to recharge. I realize that those we help trust us to be a model and mentor for their needs. We cannot fully commit to giving others proper care if we are not getting proper care from ourselves.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Self-Care Strategies</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p><strong>Commit to taking care of my mind and body. </strong>This includes rest, exercise, a balanced diet, and personal time to reflect and recharge for optimal physical and mental wellness.</p><p><br/></p></li><li><p><strong>Seek positivity and comfort from people I love and trust to decompress my stresses.</strong> After a difficult day, I come home to my family who are my world and reconnect to being a mom, wife, and daughter. My closest friends are often my "therapists" when I am feeling down, inadequate, or overwhelmed. </p></li></ol><p><br/></p><ol start="3"><li><p><strong>Disconnect from work life to focus on personal life. </strong>Every few months my family and I take a short road trip to refocus on our family away from our busy routines. </p></li></ol><p><br/></p><ol start="4"><li><p><strong>Seek spiritual refreshment.</strong> Worshiping at church, making memories with family, listening to Christian podcasts, and journaling about my faith are all things to help me to stay centered and energized.</p></li></ol>]]></description>
