Define : Matter is anything that has volume and mass while material is a definite kind, quality, or quantity of

matter, especially as intended for use.

Content: Content in this grade under the topic of matter and material includes the following concepts:

 Properties of material & their impact on the environment

 Separating mixtures- methods of physical separations and, sorting and recycling materials

 Acid bases and neutrals- taste of substances, properties of acids bases and neutrals and acid

base indicators

 Introduction to the periodic table of elements- arranging the elements on the periodic table

according to their properties, namely metals, semi-metals and non-metals

This content is spread over a span of 6 weeks with two weeks dedicated to each topic.

• A project where learners read, write draw and do practical analysis. 6 hours should be given throughout the term for learners to complete the project.

In life and living learners are taught what life is, what it looks like, where its found how we study it and how we can ensure survival.

Content:

In grade 7 life and living, learners are taught about the concept of the biosphere and the requirements for sustaining life. They also learn about biodiversity, the sexual reproduction of humans and angiosperms and variations that exists within different species.

Assessment:

Learners are given an investigation or practical task that requires them to in depth research on the topic. The assessment is based on inquiry based learning (learning through doing)
