The Man Who Shot a Ghost by Dahlyla Vang

The Beginning

One day there was a man who liked to travel. He often traveled alone and found a forest where he had killed several rabbits. As the sun set, he was in the midst of the forest. He realized he had to spend the night in the forest so he then created a fire, which would keep him safe from any danger, or so he thought.

As he spent the rest of the night to himself he grew hungry and decided to cook one of the rabbits he killed. Spending the night alone in the forest, he thought "Would I meet any danger? Nonetheless, I will shoot, and nothing will take me by surprise!" But just as he said that he heard many odd voices. Filled with confusion, he heard conversations about their affairs. Seeing no one in sight he shivered and an eerie sensation occurred, and thinking to himself he says "It seems I have encountered some ghost." He tried to keep himself calm and not overreact to this situation.

The man slunk away from the light and lay against a fallen tree that was a great distance from the fire. Sitting in silence, he listened for the voices but heard nothing. Moments later several translucent spirits drifted over to the campfire and whistled "Hyu!Hyu!Hyu!" The man grew weary. He started to feel scared, this felt intense he thought.

Spotted

As the man thought he was safe, he sat again in silence. One of the ghosts had said, "He has gone yonder." As the man heard this he became scared and hid his face, but he was then met with all the ghosts who stood around him, just as people do when they hunt rabbits. The man was laid flat beneath the tree, and one of the ghosts grew curious and climbed on the trunk of that tree.

Moments Later

The ghost began to climb the trunk and gave a cry that a man does when hitting an enemy. The ghost kicked the man in the back, the man was confused about what hit him and became angered by this. Before the ghost could get away, despite his feelings, the man shot the ghost and wounded him in the legs. The ghost let out a cry in pain and went off crying.

The Ghost

As the ghost fled the man hurriedly tried to find his way to the ghost, but failed. The ghost met up with the other ghosts, they heard shots fired and wondered if it was their fellow friend. After hearing the cry for help all they could do was to assume it was their friend. When they all saw each other once again all the ghosts had seen and heard what happened and one asked "Where did he shoot?"

After causing so much chaos the man decided to rest and catch his breath. The man had blind-shot the ghost, so he wondered where he must've shot the ghost. As the ghost questioned their friend, the ghost finally answered the question. The wounded ghost had said, "He shot me through the head, and I have come apart." They all grew in shock.

No Care

With not a care in the world the man wondered the forest some more. As the shot ghost shared its news, everyone else began to let out a cry. They were wailing on the hillside.

Suddenly

As all the ghosts let out a cry the man heard them and decided he would go to the place where all the ghosts were wailing. He spent the night in the forest but encountered no danger this time.

When the day came the man traveled and went to the hillside where all the ghosts were wailing. He found some graves and into one of them, he noticed a wolf had dug into it where the bones could be seen. As he stared at the bones, there he saw a wound in the skull.
