Pilots must use geometry to calculate angles for taking off and landing. Planes have recommended angles for takeoff and landing. If a pilot descends or climbs at an angle that is too steep, it can lead to tail strike, when the plane's tail hits the runway. This can damage the plane and may cause it to crash.

A scientific background will be useful, and Chemistry may also aid you Physics abilities. You can also find many Chemistry-related aspects of flying. Pilots have to measure and deal with weather while flying, and this is important for safety on board the plane.

The engineers design the controls that are needed in order to fly and instruments are provided for the pilot in the cockpit of the plane. The pilot uses these instruments to control the stability of the plane during flight.

Being a pilot is not like a 9-5 job, and there is no 5-day work week. It depends entirely on the airline you work for, whether your flights are long haul or short haul flights, and the times in between fights. I intend to be a short and medium haul pilot. Short-haul is a flight lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Medium-haul is defined by flights lasting between 3-6 hours. Also pilots only get paid on their time in the air not anytime spent on the ground.

My day would start at about 4 am. After I wake up I would do my morning hygiene and pack my bags in case my flight route doesn't come back to my base. Soon it will be about 4:50 am and time to go to the airport. I would arrive at airport at about 5:20am waiting for a 7:00 am morning flight. The amount of flights a pilot will do in a single day depends on the length of a flight, if a pilot is only doing short haul, they could do up to 4 flights in a day, depending on the full time it takes.

Many pilots work an average duty day of 13 hours. The maximum duty day for a pilot can't exceed 16 hours according to the FAA's current rules. The duty time is the time a pilot is on the job and available to fly. So I would get off around 7 to 8 pm. In addition, Commercial airline pilots typically have between 9 and 15 days off a month without including any leave, although this depends on the airline and type of operation.
