In my 7th grade courses, last week we completed a writing prompt titled "Did the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments solve the problem of slavery?" Using CER strategies and structures might have seriously aided in the students ability to formulate their responses. 
2. In my 8th grade courses, next week I am planning on introducing WW2. I could start the unit with the "Claim" portion, and pose some sort of extremist view as to how Germany should have won the war.
