薩提爾模式 (Satir Model) 是一種家庭治療與個人成長的方法，由維吉尼亞·薩提爾 (Virginia Satir) 創立。其中，「冰山理論 (The Iceberg Metaphor)」是其核心概念之一，用來比喻一個人的內在世界。

冰山理論的核心概念 (Core Concept of The Iceberg Metaphor)

薩提爾認為，一個人的行為 (Behaviors) 就像冰山浮在水面上的部分，是我們唯一能直接看到的。然而，水面下的巨大冰山，才是真正影響這些行為的深層內在因素。當我們遇到人際衝突或內在困擾時，如果只關注表面的行為，往往無法找到真正的解決之道。冰山理論鼓勵我們去探索水面下的部分，理解自己和他人行為背後的深層需求和感受。

Satir believed that a person's behaviors are like the tip of an iceberg floating above the water – the only part we can directly see. However, the vast part of the iceberg beneath the surface represents the deep internal factors that truly influence these behaviors. When we encounter interpersonal conflicts or inner struggles, merely focusing on surface behaviors often fails to uncover the true path to resolution. The Iceberg Metaphor encourages us to explore what lies beneath the surface, to understand the deeper needs and feelings behind our own and others' actions.

冰山理論的各個層次 (The Layers of The Iceberg Metaphor)

冰山理論將一個人的內在世界分為幾個層次，從水面上的行為，層層深入到最核心的自我：

The Iceberg Metaphor divides a person's inner world into several layers, moving from observable behaviors above the surface, deeper into the core self:

1. 行為 (Behaviors)

   • 中文解釋： 冰山最頂端，浮在水面上，是我們唯一能直接觀察到的部分。包括一個人的言語、動作、表情、姿態等外在表現。

   • 英文解釋： The very tip of the iceberg, floating above the water. This is the only part we can directly observe. It includes a person's words, actions, expressions, gestures, and other external manifestations.

   • 例子： 大聲說話 (speaking loudly)、哭泣 (crying)、沉默不語 (being silent)、生氣 (being angry)、努力工作 (working hard)。

2. 感受 (Feelings)

   • 中文解釋： 水面下的第一層。指行為背後的情緒狀態，例如快樂、悲傷、憤怒、恐懼、寂寞、焦慮等。這些感受往往驅動著我們的行為。

   • 英文解釋： The first layer beneath the water. This refers to the emotional states behind behaviors, such as happiness, sadness, anger, fear, loneliness, anxiety, etc. These feelings often drive our actions.

   • 例子： 感到受傷 (feeling hurt)、感到被誤解 (feeling misunderstood)、感到被愛 (feeling loved)、感到沮喪 (feeling frustrated)。

3. 觀點/想法/信念 (Perceptions/Thoughts/Beliefs)

   • 中文解釋： 水面下的第二層。指一個人對自己、對他人、對世界以及對情況的看法、解讀和信念。這些想法會影響我們的感受，進而影響行為。

   • 英文解釋： The second layer beneath the water. This refers to a person's views, interpretations, and beliefs about themselves, others, the world, and specific situations. These thoughts influence our feelings, which then influence our behaviors.

   • 例子： 「他不關心我」(He doesn't care about me)、 「我做得不夠好」(I'm not good enough)、 「這世界是危險的」(The world is dangerous)、 「我應該要堅強」(I should be strong)。

4. 期待 (Expectations)

   • 中文解釋： 水面下的第三層。指我們對自己、對他人、或對某種情況抱持的希望、預期或要求。這些期待可能來自過去的經驗或社會文化，當期待落空時，常會產生負面感受。

   • 英文解釋： The third layer beneath the water. This refers to the hopes, anticipations, or demands we hold for ourselves, for others, or for certain situations. These expectations may stem from past experiences or socio-cultural influences. When expectations are unmet, negative feelings often arise.

   • 例子： 「他應該要理解我」(He should understand me)、 「我必須永遠表現完美」(I must always be perfect)、 「這件事應該很順利」(This should go smoothly)。

5. 渴望/需求 (Yearnings/Needs)

   • 中文解釋： 水面下的第四層，也是更深層的核心。指一個人最基本、普遍、且共通的人性需求，如被愛 (to be loved)、被接納 (to be accepted)、被認可 (to be recognized)、有意義 (to have meaning)、有歸屬感 (to belong)、自由 (to be free) 等。這些是人類共同的深層動力。

   • 英文解釋： The fourth and deeper core layer beneath the water. This refers to a person's most basic, universal, and common human needs, such as to be loved, to be accepted, to be recognized, to have meaning, to belong, to be free, etc. These are common deep human motivators.

   • 例子： 被愛 (to be loved)、被理解 (to be understood)、被尊重 (to be respected)、感到安全 (to feel safe)。

6. 自我 (Self) / 生命力 (Life Force)

   • 中文解釋： 冰山最底層、最核心的部分。代表一個人的本質、生命力、靈魂，是我們獨特、純粹、未受經驗污染的部分。薩提爾相信每個人都有一個充滿智慧和力量的「內在自我」，只是常被上面幾層的經歷和防衛所遮蔽。

   • 英文解釋： The deepest, most core part of the iceberg. It represents a person's essence, life force, or soul – our unique, pure, and untainted self. Satir believed that everyone has an "Inner Self" full of wisdom and power, which is often obscured by experiences and defenses in the layers above.

   • 例子： 我們的潛力 (our potential)、我們的獨特性 (our uniqueness)、我們的智慧 (our wisdom)、我們的內在平靜 (our inner peace)。

冰山理論的應用 (Application of The Iceberg Metaphor)

• 自我探索 (Self-exploration)： 幫助我們了解自己的行為為何會發生，以及行為背後隱藏的真正需求是什麼。

  • It helps us understand why we behave the way we do, and what the true underlying needs are behind those behaviors.

• 理解他人 (Understanding Others)： 當我們觀察到他人的行為時，提醒我們不要只看表面，而是去思考他們水面下的感受、觀點、期待和需求。

  • When observing others' behaviors, it reminds us not to judge merely by the surface, but to consider their underlying feelings, perceptions, expectations, and needs.

• 改善溝通 (Improving Communication)： 鼓勵我們在溝通時，不只停留在行為層面爭論，而是試圖表達和探索更深層的感受與需求，從而建立更真誠、有效的連結。

  • It encourages us to move beyond superficial arguments about behaviors during communication, and instead try to express and explore deeper feelings and needs, thereby building more authentic and effective connections.

透過冰山理論，薩提爾模式教導我們，真正的改變和成長，始於對水面下冰山深層的理解和接納。 Through the Iceberg Metaphor, the Satir Model teaches us that true change and growth begin with understanding and accepting the deeper layers of the iceberg beneath the surface.
