Amy Tan won several awards anywhere from 1996-2006. To name a few of them, one is American Library Associations’ Notable Books. Second, 1996, Academy of Achievement, Golden Plate Award. Finally, she was nominated for the International Dublin Literary Award.

Amy tan was born in 1952, Oakland California she is the second child of three. She lost her father and brother to brain tumors within 6 months of each other. She later found out that she has 3 half sisters from her mother's first marriage. For her college degree she earned her bachelor's and master's degree in English and linguistics. In 1998, she contracted Lyme disease and it went misdiagnosed for years. Because of that she now suffers from epileptic seizures. Later on she help co-found LymeAid 4 kids that helps pay for uninsured children to get treatment for Lyme disease.

In her free time, Amy Tan enjoys swimming with sharks, Takes drawing classes, and she enjoys bird watching. Amy didn’t always swim, in fact she almost drowned and had to be rescued. After she wrote her first book, she gave swimming a try again and grew to love swimming and sharks. Amy Tan Takes drawing classes because it takes patience to draw. Amy Tan enjoys bird watching because she loves nature. On her webpage she has many examples of her drawing and bird watching skills.
