Ellen walked from her bedroom to the front hall, thinking that it has been a long day and she just wanted to slip into a peaceful sleep. She turned out the hall light and just then, a curious thing happened. "Fido"? she called. A flicker from the corner of her eye, almost unnoticeable, but she couldn't be sure. She flipped on the lights and checked the floor. Nothing. A sense of prevailing dread encompassed her.

I feel like the lady started having a feeling that she probably knew who it was, but at the same time she didn't really wanted to mess with it when it got close to her...Soon, when she was ready to go to sleep, she left all her lights on and her door half-way open and as soon as she closed her eyes she started hearing sounds of foot steps inside her room at that time...Then after clearing her throat she started hearing sounds like footsteps and while she had her door half-way open she got under her blanket while shivering of terrifiedness and as soon as she got a text she was too scared to even read her text and as soon as she fixed the lamp that was flickering on her own that she fixed it and by the time it was fixed it was already next to her and all you can hear was screams from the lady...

She slid into bed, considering that there might be more on her mind than she thought. She really needed a vacation, badly. Her sister was down in LA, she could go there, this house just seemed super lonely at night, she had begun to imagine things, she thought. She laid there for a while, unable to sleep. It was then that she heard it. A creaking, or was it a wheezing, a raspy , cold wheeze that penetrated the soles of her feet and sent shockwaves through the top of her scalp. She must be dreaming, she thought, and then the light turned off.

Terrified, she ducked under the covers, counting over and again, just like her mom taught her to do when she was afraid, but her mind's eye kept running back to that moment when she was ten, the face that had appeared from the darkness, that has haunted her dreams since then. This has to be a dream, it had to be, 1, 2, 3, 4, deep breathes, 2, 3, 4 serene nature, ice cream cones and puppy dogs, 3, 4. Then light turned on. Surely she was safe, an electrical outage or some faulty wiring, She took a look around. It was fine, just like always she was finally fine again. She reached for the lamp. She fumbled, feeling something hot and wet. She turned sharply and there it was. A grimace of malice on its lips, the monster had appeared in the spotlight of the bedside lamp. It had been waiting it was always there. She would never be safe.

She turned on the light, and to her surprise... nothing. Turning it off again, she saw the image more clearly this time. The outline of something she couldn't quite make out. There was definitely something there. Lights on, nothing, lights off again, something there. She sensed it closer now, heard the raspy wheeze of it's gnarled figure in the dark.

She turned off the light and suddenly she noticed a flicker from the corner of her eye. What waaas that? She thought, and quickly dismissed it once she turned the light on and discovered that nothing was there. I've really got to be imagining things, she thought. Once the light turned off again, though, she saw it again. On, nothing, off, is it getting closer? Then there it was, a gruesome thing, standing away from her, its greasy hair straggly and long, its languid pale figure hunching in the darkness.

Suddenly, she sees a shadowy figure in the dark hallway. The woman turns the light on, and doesn't see the figure again. Turns it off. The figure is back. Turns it on. The figure is gone. She repeats the process and finally comes to the realization that this mysterious and monstrous figure will only appear in the dark. She bolts to the kitchen and opens the cabinet to find duct tape. She returns to the hallway and tapes it onto the light to keep the hallway lighted. It was now time to go to bed. The monster won't come back... or would it..?
