We’ve been resting on a separate island after the lotus island incident. “In the morning, we saw that we were on a small but lush island with wild goats jumping among the rocks and a fresh stream running down the hill.” (Odyssey 93). Odysseus apparently felt an odd sensation and took 12 of us with him. He didn’t pick me because I wasn’t among the strongest. That night I slept like a sound child without having the worries of carrying the world on my shoulders. I’ve never liked Odysseus, he never took true responsibility for us. I don’t blame him either, our crew is nothing but a crate of imbeciles like children. Still that isn’t an excuse to leave us with disciplinary issues. At last we all seek to go home. The morning that followed led to a rushed panic. Polyphemus, son of Poseidon, had been lethally blinded by our leader. Odysseus had tricked him into believing many things that weren’t true. Along with that, all 12 men were gone. Odysseus has let that creature eat our comrades who had worked up to this status. My face remained in disgust as I saw the scene.

“Let him never reach his home, or if the other gods decree that he must let him come late, after long suffering, with all his comrades dead…” (Odyssey 110). I whipped my head around as I heard the rumbling and roar of the cyclops. We were all destined to die. Die. I hope I didn't hear that right, it can’t be. Our conceited leader had just sold us off to death in a matter of seconds all to bring peace to his ego. We would only be lucky if a second chance would be given to us by the gods, or at least I hope.

I’m dead now isn’t that awesome, well guess what IT ISN’T! These stupid people I’ve fought with are actually insane and now I died a sad death because of them. Even drowning in a 2 feel pool is better than this death and it's less embarrassing. Now here I am sitting on the ground writing to you because I can finally find some peace away from those men. Some still come up to me but I shoo them away because I can. I miss my dear wife, I sense she has moved on from my death and has found a new man to support her needs. I can still remember quite vividly of the events that took place right before my death. I felt terrified looking at the crashing waves. “The wind turned and we launched our ships once more onto the wind-dark sea.” (Odysseus 145). My comrades dropped dead like flies, that was the last bit of compassion I felt for any of them. It's not like we all deserved to die because of the mistakes we all made. Odysseus had told us not to hunt the cattle earlier on but the situation was dire. We would’ve all died regardless of starvation and hunger but it wouldn't have been as cruel as this was. So many others were eaten by that monstrous creature with about 6 to 7 heads. Screams made their way inside our heads. Our reaction wasn’t quick enough and time was ticking. We were all going to die. Blood spattered everywhere as scylla picked off the heads of our men as if they were newly budded flowers. I shouldn’t have ate that cattle, we should’ve listened to Odysseus but we didn’t. Our minds had wrapped themselves to the point our thoughts were tangled. Did I really deserve this? In that moment, the ship tipped over and the last thing I saw was the gentle blue sky of the human world which jagged teeth that took my life. I don’t feel like an entire hero but I am grateful to be sitting in such a comfortable position. For my arrogance however, I do complete tedious chores to repent for my actions. I miss my wife, Alexia. She is having a child soon, but I won’t be there to see it. I will close this diary today to begin my new life here in the underworld. I hope that maybe, just maybe, that Odysseus

will find his happiness soon.

I long to see her, it's been too long, Alexia , my wife. The Trojan War has swept away the flush of my skin, the strength of my mind. I just want to return to Ithaca, and wrap her around my arms. I’ve aged 10 years since the beginning of the war, and now I ask for no more. I want to rest with the pleasures of life but Odysseus, our unpleasant leader dragged us away. While traveling we came across the kingdom of Cicones, full of nothing but the true magic we’ve longed for all of these days. Our crew has been nothing but a wreck. Misleading and untrustworthy in all ways. They are like hyenas, but worse in human form. With such mysterious things going on, our trip home will whip up a storm of a lifetime.
