Module 1: Management Overview

I have learned in Module 1 about management different concepts and skills, but most importantly what a manager's task is. The most important is the management skill because you work with and through people and other organizational resources in order to achieve and accomplish your goals. A manager's task is very important as well because they need to manage the organization very effectively and efficiently. I will apply everything that I've learned to my career because I am now a Supervisor and one day hope to be a Manager or to own my personal business. All the information that I learned about Management is very useful in my career because I gained a lot of useful information that benefits me now in the present and will benefit me in the future as well. I included this artifact because it represents the Management Functions in The Management Process learned in Module 1. All of these six management functions help managers to perform their job effectively and efficiently. These functions also help managers to avoid making mistakes if followed and done correctly. I found this artifact to be interesting because it provides different management functions than the ones listed in Module 1 such as: Planning, Organizing, Influencing and Controlling.

Module 2: Organizational Ethics and Corporate Governance

I have learned in Module 2 about Society, Sustainability, Management and Diversity. Social responsibility helps the organization by protecting it and improving it. This responsibility is done through societal and organization goals. It is a very important obligation for managers because they must strive to achieve their organization's goals and accomplish everything needed, but everything needs to be performed with responsibility. An organization also needs to be sustainable because it already meets all the needs of the organization without counting on or expecting other people to perform their needs in the future. Diversity is also important in an organization because you are able to accept the differences of each culture, race, ethnicity, and religion and use all of their talents to benefit the organization. Diversity is very well applied in my daily and personal life because I am of a different ethnicity at my job, school and everywhere that I go, I represent cultural diversity. I included this artifact because it describes very well the value that diversity can bring to an organization such as: strengths and benefits. You encounter different types of minds, attitudes, beliefs, opinions and actions that are all beneficial to an organization. I found this artifact to be interesting because only by the way the five people in the artifact are displayed, you can very easily tell that the artifact is about diversity. I also found the information given to be very informative and truthful, information that I learned in Module 2 as well.

Module 3: Management Within a Global Organization

I have learned in Module 3 about International Management. In this case, managers perform their activities across the world. Another interesting topic that I learned about in Module 3 was Marriott. I will apply this in my personal life by being more knowledgeable about Marriott and it's quality when I go to pick a hotel, I can now definitely consider Marriott to be number one. I will also definitely want if I will ever have enough money, to help the poor and not only then, but even currently I am always giving and wanting to help others in need which is one thing I have in common with Marriott. I included this artifact because this article shows again how giving and caring once again Marriott is. Just as they contributed in helping Haiti after their earthquake, in this case Marriott donated 2000 pillows that were distributed to single parents in need. Along with the pillows, 100 sheet sets, some towels, bath cloths and toiletries were donated as well. I found this artifact to be interesting because it is a similar gesture that Marriott has done for people in need, both through my homework article and through this interesting article as well.

Module 4: Planning and Decision Making

I have learned in Module 4 about Planning, Making Decisions and Strategic Planning. On of the key factors in the success of an organization is planning. It determines where it needs to be and wants to go and what objectives are needed to be accomplished. There are of course advantages and disadvantages in planning. Decision Making is also very important in an organization because is the best method of picking out the best possibility to attain your objectives. Two main types of decisions are: Programmed and Nonprogrammed decisions. I will apply Planning in my career and my personal life as an important key factor that I've learned to help me plan even more better at work and home to get everything needed done in a timely and fashioned matter, by planning it right. I included this artifact because it describes in specific the difference between a programmed and a nonprogrammed decision. I found this artifact to be interesting because it provides an example for each type of decision in order to make you understand the situation better and which type of decision characterizes the situation.

Module 5: Organizational Structures and Processes

I have learned in Module 5 about the Fundamentals of Organizing, Responsibility, Authority, Delegation and Managing Organization Culture. Organizing is also an important key factor in establishing the necessity of resources in the system of management. It takes responsibility as well to fulfill the designated activities. Authority is required in order to conduct and direct. Delegation is the procedure of giving job related activities and the relative authority to individuals in an organization. I am already applying a lot of responsibility at my current job because being a supervisor, I have a lot responsibility and I am responsible for many things. I also have authority as well because I am empowered to make any decision, of course a right one, which I am trusted to do. I included this artifact because it provides six different actions that one manager must take in order to have a healthy organization. I found this artifact to be interesting because it provides a clear understanding of what a healthy organization really means and what are the factors that contributes to it.

I have learned in Module 6 about Human Resource Management, Influencing and Communication and Groups and Teams. Based on the information learned I was able to create my first Employee Satisfaction Survey and to gain a lot of useful and necessary information back that was very much needed. I applied this information by taking the survey that I created at my current job. I had all my employees complete it and return it back in order to gain the information that I was asking and looking for to apply it where it was necessary. I included this artifact because it describes very well all the factors that contribute to employee satisfaction, which in my opinion that matters the most as an employee. I found this artifact to be interesting because it displays the most important and correct key factors of employee satisfaction. It's also broken down in categories that describes very well each factor, which makes it easier to understand each factor much more rapidly.

I have learned in Module 7 about Leadership and Motivation. The most important thing that I learned in this Module was the big difference between a manager and a leader and how to distinguish them. In order to accomplish organizational success both roles of managing and leading need to be incorporated. I will apply this useful information in my career by knowing the differences between the two roles and understanding much better why things are done in a specific way and what role is played in different situations, either the one of a leader or the one of a manager. I still now, sometimes stay and question myself "What is my manager best at: being a leader or being a manager?". By knowing to distinguish the difference between the two roles, it's now easier to answer the previous question asked, but it was not as easy before. I included this artifact because it provides a lot of examples on the difference between a manager and a leader. I found this artifact to be interested because of the way is explaining the difference between a manager and a leader by providing small logos and very descriptive words for each role.

Module 8: Controlling Performance and Operations

I have learned in Module 8 about Controlling, Information and Technology and Production and Control. Both power and control are important, but power is the most important variable in the control process. Control is defined as making sure an event occurred or took place as it was planned to occur or take place. One important topic that I learned in this Module was about Toyota. I have always thought of Toyota as a poorer quality of automotive vehicles and this article confirmed it. I definitely don't think bad of Toyota, but I never considered in buying one. I will apply the information learned about Toyota to make the right future decisions if whether to buy it or not and also assist others in their decisions that are unaware of the quality and issues of Toyota. I included this artifact because based on what I have read in the article about Toyota, this artifact explains the quality of Toyota the best. I found this artifact to be interesting because of the time and difference there is to build a Rolls-Royce and a Toyota. It says it all about the quality of the two cars.
