To tie this into the Uses and Gratification Theory; I propose that Trese is being used by Filipinos as a sort of foundation. I have my gripes with Trese as a very passionate critic of animated works, but I do believe that the work that has gone into Trese is being "used" as a guarantee that we Filipinos have a vast amount of untapped culture to be utilised for media. Trese can be said to be the beginning of the Filipinos wish to satify their envy of countries such as Japan that are overflowing with media sub-cultures. You might ask what need exactly does Trese's precedent gratify for us? I believe it satisfies our need for validation on the world stage in a media sub-culture context. This is in light of the prevailing sub-culture among teen Filipinos of identifying as weeaboos, which is characterised by extreme envy of Japanese animation culture. If Trese can be the start of an animation industry boom for the Philippines, then there may be hope for Filipinos to look inward rather than outward to Japan, Korea, or the west.
