The Eastern and Western Gaming Culture merge of Square Enix.

Square Enix is a Japanese video game company, one made because of a 2003 merger between Square Co Ltd and Enix Corporation. Both companies had established themselves as major players in the gaming industry prior to the merger, with the two known for the Final Fantasy series and the Dragon Quest series respectfully. Over the years, Square Enix has evolved from a developer of role-playing games (RPGs) into a multifaceted entertainment company.

These two companies both created very similar and successful types of games that would shape the industry known as ‘Role playing games. Their branding of the ‘RPG’ led to their own subgenre called Japanese RPGS where the difference being in music choices, storytelling and artwork. The logo represents the coming together of these two giants, blending their strengths to create a unified identity. It has a geometric design reflects Square Enix’s cutting-edge technology and forward-thinking creativity. Square Enix is a cultural phenomenon in Japan, but they had more to climb throughout the years.

Over the years, the customer base has evolved significantly due to strategic mergers to combine audiences as they’ve done before. In the 80s and 90s, the company primarily catered to hardcore RPG fans, in Japan. During the 2000s, it collaborated with a surprising company: Disney to broaden their audience and introduce their unique spin to games to western audiences through their franchise, Kingdom Hearts’. In the 2010s saw further diversification with the acquisition of the defunct company, Eidos, and a growing focus on mobile gaming, attracting casual gamers and fans of Western franchises such as Tomb Raider. In the modern-day Square Enix targets their global audience’s now much older fanbase by appealing to nostalgia through remakes also engaging younger gamers with mobile and live-service titles. The last development in Square enixes story is their last controversial note: their flirting with bitcoin in gaming where most fans broadly reject this direction.

Refs.

Sato.
