ta'aruf (تعرف) is an Arabic term that means "getting to know each other" or "introducing oneself." It originates from Islamic teachings and is often used in the context of marriage, but it can also apply to friendships and social relationships.

When used in friendships, ta'aruf refers to the process of establishing a meaningful connection with someone while maintaining respect, sincerity, and proper boundaries. It emphasizes understanding a person’s character, values, and personality in a way that is honest and guided by ethical principles.

Unlike casual friendships that might develop spontaneously, ta'aruf in friendship implies a more intentional approach—seeking companionship with people who share similar values, contribute positively to one’s personal growth, and encourage mutual respect. It aligns with the Islamic principle of forming relationships based on good intentions, sincerity, and righteousness.

What is Hajj?

Hajj (حج) is the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. It is an obligation for every Muslim who is physically, mentally, and financially able to perform it at least once in their lifetime. Hajj takes place during the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah, specifically from the 8th to the 12th (or 13th) of Dhul-Hijjah.

Significance of Hajj

• Spiritual Cleansing: Hajj is believed to purify a person from past sins, making them as spiritually pure as a newborn.

• Unity of Muslims: It brings together Muslims from all over the world, regardless of race, nationality, or social status, symbolizing the unity of Islam.

• Following the Prophets: Hajj commemorates the acts of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), his wife Hajar (Hagar), and Prophet Ismail (Ishmael), whose devotion and sacrifices are honored in the pilgrimage rituals.

• Obedience to Allah: Performing Hajj is a demonstration of submission to Allah and a reminder of the Day of Judgment.

Main Rituals of Hajj

1. Ihram (State of Purity)

   • Before arriving in Mecca, pilgrims enter a state of spiritual purity called Ihram by wearing special white garments (for men) and modest clothing (for women).

   • They make the intention (Niyyah) to perform Hajj and begin reciting the Talbiyah prayer:

     "Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayka la sharika laka Labbayk..."
     (Here I am, O Allah, here I am. You have no partner, here I am.)

2. Tawaf (Circling the Kaaba)

   • Pilgrims walk seven times counterclockwise around the Kaaba, the sacred structure in the Masjid al-Haram.

3. Sa’i (Walking Between Safa and Marwah)

   • Pilgrims walk seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, reenacting Hajar’s search for water for her son, Ismail.

4. Arafat (The Day of Arafah – The Most Important Part of Hajj)

   • On the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah, pilgrims stand in prayer at Mount Arafat, seeking forgiveness and making supplications. This is the most crucial part of Hajj.

5. Muzdalifah (Collecting Stones)

   • After sunset, pilgrims move to Muzdalifah, where they spend the night and collect pebbles for the next ritual.

6. Ramy al-Jamarat (Stoning of the Devil)

   • Pilgrims throw seven pebbles at three stone pillars in Mina, symbolizing rejecting Satan’s temptations.

7. Qurbani (Sacrificing an Animal)

   • A sheep, goat, cow, or camel is sacrificed to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah.

8. Tawaf al-Ifadah & Final Steps

   • Pilgrims perform another Tawaf, cut or shave their hair (men), and remove their Ihram.

   • Many perform an optional visit to Medina, the city of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Hajj vs. Umrah

• Hajj is obligatory once in a lifetime and performed only in Dhul-Hijjah.

• Umrah is a lesser pilgrimage that can be performed anytime in the year.

1. Belief in Allah (Iman Billah - الإيمان بالله)

This is the foundation of Islamic faith—believing in:

• Allah’s existence: He is the Creator, Sustainer, and the One true God.

• Tawheed (Oneness of Allah): Allah has no partners, children, or equals.

• His 99 Names & Attributes: Such as Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful) and Al-Khaliq (The Creator).

• Worshiping Him alone: No one else deserves worship—this is the essence of La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah).

2. Belief in Angels (Iman bil Mala’ika - الإيمان بالملائكة)

Muslims believe in the existence of angels, who are:

• Created from light (nur) and have no free will—they obey Allah completely.

• Invisible to humans, but they perform important tasks in the universe.

• Famous Angels & Their Duties:

  • Jibreel (Gabriel) – Delivers revelations to prophets.

  • Mikail (Michael) – Controls rain and natural forces.

  • Israfil – Blows the trumpet on Judgment Day.

  • Malik – Guardian of Hell.

  • Raqib & Atid – Record people’s good and bad deeds.

  • Munkar & Nakir – Question the soul in the grave.

3. Belief in Divine Books (Iman bil Kutub - الإيمان بالكتب)

Muslims believe that Allah revealed divine scriptures to guide humanity. These books include:

• Suhuf (Scrolls) – Given to Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham).

• Tawrat (Torah) – Given to Prophet Musa (Moses).

• Zabur (Psalms) – Given to Prophet Dawud (David).

• Injil (Gospel) – Given to Prophet Isa (Jesus).

• Al-Qur’an – The final and unaltered revelation given to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Muslims believe that only the Qur’an remains preserved in its original form, while previous scriptures were changed over time.

Muslims believe that Allah sent prophets to guide humanity. These prophets were chosen to deliver His message and lead people to the right path.

• 124,000 prophets were sent, but only 25 are mentioned in the Qur’an.

• All prophets taught Tawheed (Oneness of Allah).

• Some of the most important prophets include:

  • Adam (AS) – The first human and prophet.

  • Nuh (Noah, AS) – Warned his people before the great flood.

  • Ibrahim (Abraham, AS) – Father of monotheism and built the Kaaba.

  • Musa (Moses, AS) – Given the Torah and led the Israelites.

  • Isa (Jesus, AS) – Given the Injil (Gospel) and performed miracles.

  • Muhammad (PBUH) – The final prophet and the seal of all prophets (Khatam an-Nabiyyin), bringing the Qur’an as the final guidance for humanity.

5. Belief in the Day of Judgment (Iman bil Yawm al-Qiyamah - الإيمان باليوم الآخر)

Muslims believe that this world is temporary and that a final day will come, when all humans will be resurrected and judged by Allah.

• Major Events of the Day of Judgment:

  • Israfil will blow the trumpet, and everything will be destroyed.

  • People will be resurrected and gathered in the field of Mahshar for judgment.

  • The Book of Deeds will be given—right hand for the righteous, left hand for the sinful.

  • The Scale (Mizan) will weigh good and bad deeds.

  • As-Sirat (The Bridge over Hellfire) will determine if one goes to Paradise or Hell.

• Final Destinations:

  • Jannah (Paradise) – Eternal reward for the righteous.

  • Jahannam (Hell) – Punishment for those who rejected Allah and did evil.

6. Belief in Qadar (Divine Destiny) – الإيمان بالقدر

This is the belief that Allah has full knowledge and control over everything that happens in the universe. Everything, good or bad, happens according to Allah’s divine will (Qadar).

• Four Aspects of Qadar:

  1. Allah’s Knowledge (Ilm) – He knows everything past, present, and future.

  2. Allah’s Writing (Kitabah) – Everything is written in Lauh al-Mahfuz (the Preserved Tablet).

  3. Allah’s Will (Mashi’ah) – Nothing happens without His permission.

  4. Allah’s Creation (Khalq) – He created everything, including human actions.

• Free Will vs. Predestination

  • Humans have free will to make choices, but everything is still within Allah’s knowledge and plan.

  • Example: If someone gets sick, they have free will to seek treatment, but the outcome is part of Allah’s decree.

The Day of Judgment (Yaumul Qiyamah) is the day when Allah will resurrect all humans and judge them based on their deeds. It is one of the Six Pillars of Iman (Faith) and is a fundamental belief in Islam. This day will mark the end of the world and the beginning of eternal life in either Jannah (Paradise) or Jahannam (Hell).

1. Signs of Yaumul Qiyamah

Before the Day of Judgment, major and minor signs will appear as warnings.

🟢 Minor Signs (Already Happening or Will Happen)

These are smaller events that lead up to the end of the world. Some of them include:
✅ The coming of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the final messenger.
✅ People competing in tall buildings (modern skyscrapers).
✅ A rise in immorality, adultery, and sin becoming normal.
✅ Increase in corruption, dishonesty, and killing.
✅ Time will feel faster (years feel like months).
✅ Disobedience to parents and loss of family values.
✅ Spread of music, dancing, and intoxicants.

🔴 Major Signs (Once These Appear, Qiyamah is Very Close!)

These are huge events that will shake the world:
1️⃣ The Arrival of Imam Mahdi – A righteous leader will unite Muslims.
2️⃣ Dajjal (The False Messiah) – A one-eyed deceiver who will perform false miracles and claim to be God.
3️⃣ The Return of Prophet Isa (Jesus, AS) – He will defeat Dajjal and restore justice.
4️⃣ The Emergence of Ya’juj & Ma’juj (Gog & Magog) – Corrupt tribes will spread destruction.
5️⃣ Three major landslides – One in the east, one in the west, and one in Arabia.
6️⃣ The Sun Rising from the West – No repentance will be accepted after this.
7️⃣ A Beast from the Earth – It will speak to humans and mark believers from disbelievers.
8️⃣ A Fire from Yemen – It will drive people to their final gathering place.

Once all major signs have occurred, the world will face destruction.

2. The End of the World

🔹 Israfil (AS) will blow the trumpet (Sur) for the first time, and:

• Mountains will crumble.

• The sun and moon will collide.

• The earth will shake violently.

• Every living thing will die.

🔹 The Second Trumpet (Resurrection)

• Allah will resurrect every human from their graves.

• People will be naked, barefoot, and terrified.

• They will be gathered in the plain of Mahshar, waiting for judgment.

3. The Day of Judgment Process

📌 1. The Gathering (Al-Hashr - الحشر)

• Every human will be resurrected and stand before Allah.

• Some will sweat in fear, based on their sins (some up to their necks!).

📌 2. The Book of Deeds (Kitab-ul-A’maal - كتاب الأعمال)

• Every person’s deeds (good and bad) will be presented to them.

• The righteous will receive their book in their right hand (Jannah).

• The sinful will receive it in their left hand (Jahannam).

📌 3. The Scale of Deeds (Mizan - الميزان)

• A giant scale will weigh a person’s good and bad deeds.

• If good deeds are heavier, the person will go to Jannah.

• If bad deeds are heavier, the person will go to Jahannam.

📌 4. The Sirat Bridge (الصراط)

• A thin, sharp bridge over Hellfire that every person must cross.

• The righteous will cross quickly, while the sinful may fall into Hell.

4. The Final Destinations

🌿 Jannah (Paradise)

• A place of eternal happiness for the righteous.

• Rivers of milk, honey, and wine (without intoxication).

• Beautiful palaces, gardens, and blessings beyond imagination.

• The greatest reward: Seeing Allah in Jannah.

🔥 Jahannam (Hell)

• A place of punishment for those who rejected Allah.

• Boiling water, scorching fire, and unbearable suffering.

• Different levels of punishment, based on a person’s sins.

• Some will remain forever, while some believers will be saved after their punishment.

5. The Power of Intercession (Shafa’ah)

• Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will ask Allah to forgive some believers and take them out of Hell.

• Some people, after serving their punishment, will enter Jannah by Allah’s mercy.

Conclusion: How to Prepare for Yaumul Qiyamah?

✅ Strengthen Iman (Faith) – Believe in Allah, follow the Sunnah.
✅ Pray (Salah) & Seek Forgiveness (Istighfar) – Never miss your prayers!
✅ Do Good Deeds – Charity, helping others, being kind.
✅ Avoid Major Sins – Stay away from lying, cheating, and harming others.
✅ Remember Death & The Hereafter – Live as if Qiyamah is near.

Adab refers to good manners, proper conduct, and ethical behavior in daily life. It includes:

• Respecting others (elders, parents, teachers, and fellow humans).

• Speaking kindly and avoiding harsh words.

• Being humble and not arrogant.

• Showing patience and gratitude in all situations.

• Keeping promises and being honest.

• Using polite language (saying Assalamu’alaikum, please, and thank you).

Examples of Adab in Different Situations

✅ Adab with Parents – Speak respectfully, obey them, and never raise your voice.
✅ Adab with Teachers & Elders – Listen attentively and never interrupt them.
✅ Adab in Eating – Say Bismillah, eat with the right hand, and don’t waste food.
✅ Adab in Speech – Avoid gossip, lying, and speaking harshly.
✅ Adab in the Mosque – Stay quiet, dress modestly, and focus on worship.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Adab

The Prophet (PBUH) was the best example of Adab. He said:

“The best among you are those who have the best manners.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

2. Ihsan (Excellence and Perfection in Worship and Life)

Ihsan means to do everything with excellence, sincerity, and full awareness of Allah. It applies to both worship and everyday life.

The Definition of Ihsan

The Prophet (PBUH) defined Ihsan as:

"To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, then know that He sees you." (Hadith Jibril - Muslim)

This means:

• Performing worship with full devotion, sincerity, and love for Allah.

• Doing good deeds not just for rewards, but because it pleases Allah.

• Always striving for excellence in actions and character.

Examples of Ihsan in Life

✅ Ihsan in Worship – Praying with full concentration, not rushing.
✅ Ihsan in Work – Doing your job honestly and giving your best effort.
✅ Ihsan in Relationships – Treating people with kindness and fairness.
✅ Ihsan in Charity – Giving without expecting anything in return.

The Reward of Ihsan

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“Indeed, Allah loves the doers of Ihsan.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:195)
“Is there any reward for Ihsan except Ihsan (Jannah)?” (Surah Ar-Rahman 55:60)

This shows that those who practice Ihsan will be loved by Allah and rewarded with Jannah (Paradise).

Conclusion: How to Apply Adab and Ihsan?

✅ Always be respectful and polite (Adab).
✅ Do everything sincerely and with excellence (Ihsan).
✅ Remember that Allah is watching (Taqwa).
✅ Follow the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH).
