Q1) Which of the Ten Ethical Computing Guidelines do you think students violate most often?

Students violate the 8th commandment, as it pertains to the idea of plagiarism. To list out a few, there is copy-pasting without correct citation, paraphrasing without credit given, and potentially self-plagiarizing. Additionally, I feel like 6th commandment is a big one that students break. People use pirated websites all the time. Some of these include pirated tv show sites and illegal sports streaming websites. These are copyrighted content without the licensing that you need.

Q2) Why do you think these violations occur?

These violations occur because students frequently fail to consider them to be significant problems. Many people believe that it is used by everyone or they lack a thorough understanding of digital ethics, particularly when it comes to rewording someone else's work without giving them credit. Students are also pushed to take shortcuts, even when they know they are wrong, by convenience and the need to fulfill deadlines.

Q3) What do you think could be done to reduce or eliminate such unethical behavior?

To help kids understand the significance of issues like plagiarism and piracy, schools should provide additional instruction on digital ethics. To promote original writing, teachers can also enforce proper citations and use plagiarism checkers. Increasing the accessibility or affordability of software and educational materials would lessen the motivation to violate these guidelines.
