Virtues in Salah with Khushu'

During our session, I learned about three important concepts in Islam that help strengthen our relationship with Allah and guide us in our daily lives

Al Ta'ah (Obedience)
I learned that Al Ta'ah means obeying Allah by following His commands and avoiding what He has forbidden. This includes obeying the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and those in authority, as long as their guidance aligns with Islamic teachings. Obedience brings spiritual rewards and brings us closer to Allah. I was reminded that true obedience is not just in action but also in intention and sincerity.

Al Jihad (Struggle for Allah)
I learned that Jihad means striving with effort in the path of Allah and it can take many forms, not just physical but also through words, knowledge, teaching, and fighting against our own desires. Jihad is about putting effort into upholding Islam and building a better society. It taught me that everyday struggles like being patient, doing good, or standing up for truth can be considered acts of Jihad if done for Allah’s sake.

Muhasabah (Self Reflection)
I learned that Muhasabah is the habit of checking ourselves, our actions, words, and thoughts, to see if they align with Islamic values. It's a powerful tool for self-improvement. I also learned a five-step process to do Muhasabah effectively, which includes correcting mistakes, using time wisely, and always being aware of our responsibilities before Allah. This practice helps us grow spiritually and prepare for the Hereafter.

This group presentation, which was the first for our to have role play assignment, focused on the Islamic concept of niyyah (intention) and its role in our daily lives and worship.

What is Niyyah?
Niyyah means the purpose behind an action done from the heart and for the sake of Allah.

Why is it Important?
A sincere intention brings blessings, increases rewards, and helps distinguish acts done for Allah from those done for other reasons.

It brings inner peace, builds trust, encourages positive actions, and strengthens relationships.

Simple acts like studying, helping parents, or giving charity become worship when done with the right niyyah.

Even if an action isn’t completed, a sincere intention still earns reward. Niyyah transforms ordinary actions into meaningful worship.

In Week 7 Usrah, I learned about two important virtues connected to charity:

Rahmah means friendliness, mercy, and compassion. It’s key to creating a just and peaceful society. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is described as a mercy to all worlds, and Rahmah encourages us to care for others, support each other in good, and avoid harm or injustice. This virtue applies in all parts of life, including social, economic, and healthcare settings.

Tawakkul means putting full trust in Allah while continuing to make sincere efforts. It is not about doing nothing but working hard and relying on Allah’s wisdom and plan. The example of birds searching for food while trusting Allah shows that effort and trust go together.

In addition, our group and the Naqibah’s group prepared for the class’s final presentation. We also played a Snake and Ladders game, which made the learning session fun and engaging.
