travel and transport is by no means a need in life but the demand is there meaning it is one of the biggest industries. one of the first people to organise a trip for tourists was Thomas Cook who managed to send 540 people across the country on a train in the late 1840's.

The advancements made in travel and tourism has revolutionised a lot of things rather than just tourism. it has made business a lot more efficient and cost effective. it has also made medical care easier with the invention of helicopters meaning people can be air lifted from the scene and receive medical attention a lot sooner. these advancements in travel have made the tourism industry boom in the last few decades with nearly everyone in most developed countries go on holiday abroad either using long haul trains, ships and most popular planes as they are the fastest mode of transport available.

we can expect in the future, things like faster planes, bigger, faster trains and new technologies coming forward to make travel more efficient both short and long ranges. for example the STRADDLE bus which is being tested in china. this is a bus that is suspended above the traffic so it goes right over the traffic without adding to congestion making bus travel a lot faster.

the future of tourism is amazing because it is predicted that we could take trips to space within the next 10 years and it will be affordable too. companies like NASA and Virgin Galactic have come up with plans and prototypes to send regular people into space. these will both use high altitude, modified planes that can reach the stratosphere, the point just before the outer atmosphere supplying stunning views of the planet.

Another idea that has been granted is being developed by Thoth technology in Canada, this is being called the first plausible space lift which will extend 12.4 miles into the air with a runway on top. this will have lifts running on the outside of it to propel people to the top to then board a spaceship tat wont need to use rockets to reach the edge of the atmosphere as it has already covered 12.4 miles. this can then provide a new tourism market and commercialise space travel and tourism. http://thothx.com/news-2/ video.
