While this inquiry based research model has its origins in the early 90's, it does not have to be used solely for the purpose of "writing papers".  The 21st Century Educator can use this strategy to help guide students through the research process for digital presentations such as Animoto, Prezi, Glogster, etc.

• an introduction that sets the stage of the activity
• a doable, interesting task
• a set of information resources
• a clear process
• guidance and organizational frameworks
• a conclusion that provides reflection and closure.

• can be as short as a single class period or as long as a month-long unit;
• usually (though not always) involve group work, with division of labor among students who take on specific roles or perspectives;
• are built around resources that are pre-selected by the teacher. Students spend their time USING information, not LOOKING for it.

Differences

1) Research Assistant does not have to be web-based.
2) WebQuest is more appealing.
3) WebQuests are designed for cooperative learning.
4) Research Assistant requires a longer timeframe.
