In the beginning of the story, Conor wakes up from his nightmare, in which he hasn't told anyone and isn't willing to tell anyone. And we get to learn that this monster is the yew tree. He calls out Conor's name and warns him about how things are going to get worse for him. The next day on his way to school, he is tripped by Harry and teased by Harry's supporters, while a girl named Lillian defends Conor though gets in trouble for fighting with Harry, in which Conor doesn't defend Lillian. After reading the beginning, questions have raced in my head; what does the monster want from Conor? What is so bad about Conor's nightmare? What was the 'little talk' that his mother had with him? Why did it make a big difference? A lot of questions racing in my mind, though I do have some inferences on what is going on. I think that Harry has something to do with Conor's troubles, as if he knows what Conor is going through and taking it as an advantage. Also, I think that this monster is to make Conor doubt himself and make him a coward.

The prince had killed his own love in order to convince everyone that the queen was a witch and evil, and had done this matter, and he ended leading his kingdom peacefully once he got to be king. His grandmother, the queen, WAS evil, as she had wanted to hold on to the power of being a ruler, though she was convicted of murdering the prince's love, even though she didn't. Her living room was shattered into pieces, and there was nothing she could do but get rid of anything left standing in it. She had seen so much destruction there. Conor's mother is very weak, and the medicine is not working. Conor's furious that the monster didn't heal his mother. Or that people might be one thing but also might be another. In the first tale, both characters had 2 major traits, such as the prince wanting to end his grandmother's greediness for power, while lying to himself that he wasn't the one who killed his love. In the second tale, the Parson was a believer, yet put others down because of his selfishness. In the third story,the invisible man wanted to be seen, but he ended up being seen too much. In the last tale, Conor lets go of his mother, in order to let go of his fear and anticipation. ALl the tales show that someone can be good, and make mistakes.
