One if the songs seen in the novel is "Three O'Clock in the Morning", by Paul Whiteman. The song takes place at one of Gatsby's parties, and Nick, Tom, and Daisy are trying to figure out how Gatsby got his wealth. The song has a line that says, "A guy feels lonely then..." This is significant to the novel because Gatsby is alone because he only wants Daisy who he can't have. This song also helps create a sort of suspicious mood, because they are trying to figure out what Gatsby does.

It is a critical part of the novel because it helps create a mood for what is going on when the song is playing. It also was the new popular music during the time, that appealed to the upper class people, (Gatsby, Tom, Daisy, Jordan).
