After watching the video and reading this quote what would you have done in the narrator’s place?

“But I couldn’t have brought the child here, I never identified it as mine; I didn’t name it before it was born even, the way you’re supposed to. It was my husband’s, he imposed it on me, all the time it was growing in me I felt like an incubator. He measured everything he would let me eat, he was feeding it on me, he wanted a replica of himself; after it was born I was no more used. I couldn't prove it though, he was clever: he kept saying he loved me."

I think it is quite understandable her feelings. She was not taken into account at all. I would have told him something, I would have taken actions towards me, to prioritize my baby. I would have decided about those things, even if it was too complicated during those times.
Guadalupe

Language shapes our lives, it directly influences the way in which we perceive reality. The protagonist was helpless in the sense that she was imposed to continue with the pregnancy, but at the same time this clashed with the belief that he loved her. It was hard for the protagonist to critically contemplate doing something about it, something she really wanted to do. It was all external. Considering all this, I would’ve probably had the baby even if I didn’t want to.

I strongly believe that each woman must be free to choose if she wants to become a mother or not. In this case, it was clear enough that she didn´t want to be a mother. She felt as an incubator, it means that she didn´t feel herself. She didn´t feel connected with her pregnancy.

It is incredible hard for me to put myself into her shoes or to think what could I have done in her place, specially since I am not a woman. But I think that given the context, I would have felt incredibly oppressed, I don't even know if I would have the courage to impose my feelings and wishes. Nowadays it is a little bit easier to imagine a woman stating her ideas or believes, but in those times I can imagine some serious consequences coming after facing men.

If I had been in the narrator's place, I would have tried to take control over my own body. But I guess that, considering the time during which the narrator was living, being an independent woman and deciding over your own body was out of limits. The image of being an incubator or an empty vase that can be filled as someone else pleases is just exasperating.

Motherhood should be planned and wanted (by both parents). In the narrator's case, she had no say in it. It should've been something shared among them as a couple but instead it was "imposed on her".
