popular kids

all stay together and don't take lightly to new comers.they think they are better than everyone else. act like they own the school. the top of the food chain. not very nice to anyone who is not apart of their group. don't care about things. have to assert their dominance towards anyone who could possibly threaten it. they are actual nice people by themselves but as a collective it creates an environment of peer pressure and hostile/stupid decisions. 

loner

trying to fit in. will try to associate with the new kid as he doesn't know of his weirdness. easily excited by a new friend. an undertone of homosexuality creates a closer bond for the loner towards the new kid but not the other way.

From the start of the film you can see that the reason they are all rebelling is because of their parents.

We can see that Jim's dad is a push over 
Jim is ashamed and embarrassed by his dad being a chicken and letting him let people walk all over him 

Platos parents don't care about their son and his dad has left him and have left him 

Jim is annoyed at his parents for fighting
