the older generation is now provided with better health care which is resulting with them living longer. as they're living longer they're able to go on more holidays. the grey market usually opt for for relaxed holidays such as cruises. some cruise companies even create long holidays such as cruises over 200 days, its mostly populated by older people as they have no responsibilities such as a job.
package holidays have been around since the 1950's and have been popular ever since. majority of people have been on the traditional 1-2 week beach package holiday and now they want ton try something else.
people have started to go on specialist holidays which are holidays that fits a persons interests. an example of this would be dark tourism. dark tourism is when people visit a location that has a tragical event linked to it. the twin tower memorial is an example of this.
as for younger people, they are staying home for longer time periods meaning they have more disposable income and can spend it on holidays in the future.
Covid 19 has had a direct impact on revenge travel and people now have the urge to travel to their bucket list destinations as they've been restricted from travel for nearly 3 years.

80% of holidays are now being booked online as it's more convenient for people as they have access to the web 24/7. the only market that usually booked through a travel agent in store anymore is the grey market as they aren't as confident with technology. due to this being the case, many travel agent have been forced to shut down or fire many of their staff members.
in hospitality, customers are now able to order from their table from a QR code.
in the airport technology has improved for the years. there is now self check out in airports that quickens the lines at the airport.
electronic payments not only make travelling safer but also easier for both customers and companies. its also useful as you'll have confirmation on the booking on your phone, making checking at the airport a lot quicker.
customers are now able to view rooms online and pick which room they would like to stay in. – Guest satisfaction knowing they have picked a room they are happy with.

travel companies have to find out the different rules for each country as all countries have different rules and regulations. all airlines in the UK are, by law, meant to have an ATOL license. this is to protect the customers when they're traveling. if the company were ever to go bust or administration customers would still be able to continue with their holiday and when it's time to leave, CAA will organise flights to bring all customers home.
Increasing the minimum wage makes labor costs more expensive and costs more to employ people which can affect small businesses.
companies that purchase soft drinks that contain sugar now have to pay a sugar tax, this was introduced in April 2018 and a result of this was customers paying more for theirt soft drinks to cover the tax.

there is an increase of pressure on travel organisations to become more environmentally responsible. tourists are also more aware of the environmental issues and are more willing to book with travel companies that are being more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
ethical sourcing covers the way in which products are produced, including the whole supply chain and ensuring that workers involved are treated and paid fairly.
local sourcing is important to help the local community and reduces food miles. travel companies who follow will be seen in good light and attract more customers.

Due to Covid, tui has reportedly lost up to £2.7 billion. This includes the 8,00 jobs they cut and 166 high street travel agency branches. People who want to go on domestic holidays are going to be put off as fuel prices are rising meaning it costs more to travel in your own country and flights are also becoming more expensive as it costs so much money to fill a full tank of fuel on a plane. Inflation has become a massive thing in the recent years meaning the prices of everything is going up however people’s wages are staying the same so they have less things they can spend money on. Because of inflation people’s gas and electric bills, food and rent has gone sky high in price meaning people have less money to spend on leisure. Increased costs have led to hospitality businesses putting up their prices. Due to the increase of gas and electric bills hospitality also gets affected by this especially by the fact that the food prices have risen. The price of holidays to European destinations is expected to rise in 2023 as travel companies face rising energy costs across Europe.

Brexit means exit

From 2023 British visitors will have to register online and pay in advance for visas into specific countries. it’s approximately 7 pounds for a three-year permit.uk tourists are able to bring duty free alcohol and tobacco into the UK from an EU destination.UK passport holders require a visa to work in the EU so now tour operators are employing more EU based staff as resort reps. UK residents will no longer have access to the EUs fast track passport control and customs lanes which is now because of Brexit. Holidays will become more expensive as the queues are longer meaning it takes a lot longer to get through the airport which then results in less people going on holiday. Due to the high prices of holidays UK residents are more likely to book a holiday that is in the United Kingdom which is extremely good for the UK but bad for other countries especially those that rely on tourists for an income of money.
