We are heading towards mothers day so this could provide the students with some inspiration if they wish to write their mother their final poem. This is a great book that shows everything that we will be learning about poems, like symbolism, figurative language, similes, and metaphors. Even if they did not want to write about their Mom this is a great example to look at for anything that they are writing.

This will be my anchor text for the Lesson
This book is a great example to the students that not every poem will rhyme completely their are different styles of poems. This will be used during an interactive read aloud for the class. They will have the opportunity to identify rhyming words while being careful this is a tricky text. Also full of figurative language and will be a great example throughout our unit.
