Traditional Role of Women - Angelina

The role of women changed drastically once world war 2 began. Men were going into war leaving their families and jobs to fight for the country. This left factories without employees to make weapons for the war. Factories had no choice, but to hire women to take men positions in the work force. They even made propaganda to make it seem like working was fashionable to women to make them work. Women became the new bread winners of the family while their husbands left to fight in war.

Rosie the riveter was an iconic hard working woman that was used in propaganda newspapers to encourage women to work during the war. Also, it gave women the okay to work instead of staying home and being a house wife. The increased job opportunities for women after world war two would've been good for women and their families. This meant women could get used to help bring money home and let them learn new skills from outside the homes. Also, they wouldn't have to worry about bills and having get wait for their husbands to pay for bills.

Women in the Military - Angelina

In world war two, the allies needed all the help they could get to defeat the axis powers so this called for women to get involved and to help fight and take care of soldiers in the war. For example, there were women's army corps that worked in over 200 noncombat jobs and had full military status. Also, there were the WAVES and the WASP. The WAVES held the same status as sailors and provided support from the home-front. The WASP were the first women to fly american military air crafts. They delivered planes and cargo. They even practice missions, tested new planes and repaired them. Albert Speer was implying that women are strong and smart as well as men but sometimes they are more smart then men.

The Role Of Women At The End Of WW2 - Angelina

Women were praised for their helpful work during the war, but once the war ended it was over. Jobs began letting go some women because of returning troops and believed they should go back to their house work and domestic work since the men were returning. Most of the women didn't want to give up their jobs because they got used to their careers in the men working field. Most women that kept their jobs were put in different positions from the returning troops and were payed different wages. I do not agree with women getting laid off just because of the returning troops. I say this because women were working hard while the troops were gone and they put in their sweat and blood into working for those companies when they didn't have anyone to work in those companies.

Mexican Americans and War Production in The Southwest - Angelina

Mexican immigrants moved to the U.S. during the world war one due to the economy boom of farming. Once world war one ended and the economy boom started to weaken due the Great Depression and much much, Mexican Americans began to move into cities for work. When world war two began most Mexican Americans were living in the Southwest. They lived in overcrowded, rundown neighborhoods and suffered from high unemployment rates. Many of Mexican Americans, men and women, helped fight and take cared of soldiers during world war two. World War 2 brought a booming economy to the southwest in forms of military bases, factories, and shipyards. Mexican Americans took jobs in industrial production and unemployment rates among Mexican Americans dropped dramatically. Industrial production paid well for Mexican Americans and average income rose for them. Rosita is a Mexican American woman who helped the U.S. in a big way by being ships and working in shipyards. I think it shows woman can be strong too but they should've made the poster like the other posters they made for American women that showed they could be girly and hard working. This poster makes Mexican American women look like they are only strong and can't be pretty while doing it either.
