An individual can be diagnosed with deaf blindness with tests that show an individual’s hearing and vision. Most of these tests are done during newborn screening. These screenings are carried out to see if baby has any issues from birth. This includes problems with eyes and hearing. During the screening if there are no issues picked up during this stage, deaf blindness is detected during routine checks as the child becomes older. There are many cases where deafblindness happens gradually as an individual becomes older.
