Monitoring blood pressure through regular checks could prevent life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks and strokes.

Council staff at these Community Centres and Libraries can now help residents check their blood pressure.

Community Champions have also been trained at each centre to assist with using the kiosks.

The aim of the project is to help communities in the North Tyneside area learn how to make more efficient use of their available space, whether that is public or private, in order to grow food and improve their physical and mental health. 

Information and support for children and young people on bullying and a whole range of other issues. You can contact Childline about anything. 

‘ease INTO’ is a programme that’s been created as part of the Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) backed by the Department for Education.

There are different programmes for the Easter, Summer and Christmas holidays with activities such as trampolining, swimming, cooking classes and sport. Each session includes a free, nutritious meal. 

The programme is free for children on income-based free school meals. 

Children not in receipt of income-based free school meals  can attend any activity where paid-for places are available.

An annual event, where young people can talk directly to employers and expect a range of apprenticeships and training on offer in North Tyneside.

National Supported Internship Day

A supported internship is an education programme in a workplace setting, designed to help young people with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) transition from school to employment.

These internships provide opportunities for individuals aged 16 to 24 (up to 25 if they have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan) to gain practical work experience in a real workplace setting.

Reading Well Mood-boosting Books is a national promotion of uplifting titles, including novels, poetry and non-fiction. The books are all recommended by readers and reading groups.

There are also opportunities for those children and young people who are not part of these forums to get involved in decision-making through other work with services and schools around participation.

The group discuss issues that affect their lives, raises awareness about SEND and is supported to work with North Tyneside Council and other organisations (who provide services for young people).   

North Tyneside Advocacy Service

Support for children in care, care-experienced young people, children and young people in child protection, and young people with SEND.

To be eligible you must be aged between 11 and 18 and live or work in North Tyneside, or be in years seven to 13 in a North Tyneside school or college. If you have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) you can apply and vote up to the age of 25 years.

You can become a Youth Councillor for North Tyneside Council.

Giving children a voice!

For children in care, care-experienced young people, children and young people in child protection, and young people with SEND (special educational needs or a disability).
An advocate will work with these children independently to make sure their rights are respected and will do their best to support them.

Regular Activities for Children

North Tyneside Carers' Centre is an independent charity and the only generic carer support service in North Tyneside supporting both young and adult carers with everything from advocacy to mental health through one-to-one sessions and peer support groups. They also provide specialist training and information sessions.

Mindstars support the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people, together with their parents and guardians, delivering a full family approach. 

The professional and qualified team offers a range of vital wellbeing activities, support and advice, to remove the barriers that poor mental health brings.

Through their partnership with Feeding Families, Mindstars provide Emergency Food Parcels to families in their community. They also provide a period poverty service,

just walk in!

The resources have been developed for adults supporting children and young people seeking asylum in the UK, including those working in education settings and community organisations.

They are also available in Welsh.

They offer one-to-one support to newly diagnosed patients, as well as hosting workshops, exercise classes, events and support groups.

All sessions are free to anyone affected by cancer. That includes family, friends, carers and healthcare professionals.

The charity’s aim is to help empower people through self-help, mutual support and signposting to local services.

They support people who recently arrived in the UK through a weekly drop-in. The team help to signpost facilities and services, provide essential homeware, clothing and food, and assist people to access legal, medical and other advice.
