Statistics are a super important aspect when bringing light to an issue many statistics were discussed throughout our course. This video helps portray the alarming growing rate of this problem throughout the world.

Sure we all know that sex trafficking happens.. just like drunk driving.. We all know bad things happen in the world but we never think they will happen to us or happen around us in our city or town. This video really shocked me as it states most victims are from Toronto. The conditions, the way of life these girls are forced to live and how they are lured into this horrible cycle truly terrified me. I enjoyed this video because much of what we learned throughout the course was happening in other countries and I think that it provides a much bigger impact when thing's like this are happening close to home as it could be someone you know who might face these problems.

Although I was not able to attach an actual link to this film I HIGHLY recommend everyone watch it or at least watch the trailer. The trailer alone caught my attention. It was the first thing that popped up in my search about this topic. I will never forget what I learned from this movie. It truly takes you into the world of sex trafficking and not only from the perspective of the girls involved but also from the opposite side of the spectrum. This video reminded me of the documentaries provided about girls in Thailand or Bangkok who are sex workers in order to provide help to their families and to be able to survive financially as it shows the other side of the story as well and what may happen once they leave in places like Bangkok and Thailand.

I really wanted to research organizations because I felt enraged by the fact that so many young women and even girls get roped into this horrible type of slavery. I wanted to know was anyone doing anything to help them? was help accessible in every country? Or as learned in this course sometimes things we think are horrible are the cultural norm in certain societies. I was able to find this amazing website that aims to help young women all over the world. They not only provide information about sex trafficking but they also have a hotline and a text line for young women to call for information on how to escape. For those who think they may know someone involved there is also information about recognizing the signs.

https://polarisproject.org/sex-trafficking

Its alarming to think that sex trafficking has become as big of a global problem as drug trafficking. These images below display graphics of where the highest trafficking countries of Origin are in contrast to where the women/children recruited for sex trafficking end up as a destination country. It really does affect almost every country around the world whether its women/children being taken to those countries or women being recruited from countries. This image I believe adds emphasis to my topic about it being around the world practically every country has some color on these maps and that is scary. Most of the issues we discussed in the course were core issues of other countries who weren't able to have the education we do in Canada however when you see maps like these about a growing issue it make's you realize that not all inequality issues or for women happen in only distant countries.

Every Thirty Seconds is another organization that brings awareness to the issue of sex trafficking. They provide great information from statistics, how you can help and they have an interesting section that really appeals to the fact that although everyone is aware of sex trafficking no one really knows when or how it happens or if its an issue in there area. They also have brought the whole "barcode" image to the issue which I found really interesting as it easily portrays how dehumanizing and scary the issue has become. It is called "Every Thirty Seconds" as it is know that every thirty seconds someone becomes a victim of human trafficking.

http://everythirtyseconds.weebly.com/

Ever heard of rape culture? Blaming the victim? Have you every found yourself saying "I would never be stupid enough to believe that, or I would have never done that" well sometimes its just not that simple. This picture really made me see how horrible it was for me to ever have said those things about someone when I had no idea what went on. Look at this picture it SOUNDS like a great opportunity. Especially for young women who wouldn't want to take an adventure? I think this can relate to how beauty is portrayed in many western societies are this glorious image of perfection and there are many magazines and websites that aim to tell how to achieve this perfection however they all are really to good to be true. Often we fail to take these images of perfection and an image or offer that seems to good to be true with a grain of salt.

All hope isn't lost. Although sex trafficking is a horrible issue around the world I was able to find some inspiring survivor stories from sex trafficking victims. What was most inspiring was that it created this organization called Equality Now who fights for a world that will someday be equal for both women and girls of all countries. One of their main targets is to end sex trafficking. Not only have these women/girls come forward to share their stories but also their idea's about how to change the world how to better such a big problem. There is also an opportunity to participate in their campaigns to fight sex trafficking. This website reminded me of the websites looked at about microcredit how it recognizes the pain and suffering these women go through how it strives to get assistance from women/people who aren't in these situations in order to bring about help.

http://www.equalitynow.org/campaigns/trafficking-survivor-stories
