They follow these conventions so that the final magazine product looks professional so that it will sell when it goes onto the shelves.

THESE CONVENTIONS INCLUDE

A short catchy title and a masthead that catches the reader's eye

A large main image on the front cover showing the reader who the main article is about

A good colour scheme that will make people look at the magazine

The use of different size fonts for emphasis and so the more important things stand out

THESE CONVENTIONS INCLUDE

A title at the top of the page to tell the reader they're looking at the contents page, along with the date also somewhere on the page.

Quotes from the main article and sometimes the other articles.

A features section - the stuff that is most likely to draw the reader in.

Images.

A colour scheme that is the same as the front cover so it looks professional.

Page numbers for the different articles.

Fonts that are clear and readable.

The same fonts used in the contents page as on the front cover.

A large image to show what the main feature is about.

I was consistent with the colour scheme as it looks much more professional and people would be able to identify it with being from my magazine from the colours alone if they were to see a picture of the DSP on the internet if this was sold as a real media product.
