Children draw from a basket or bag containing a variety of small shapes to put on the large shape drawn on a piece of poster board. The children take turns choosing a small shape from the basket and then identifying it, describing it, and placing it on top of the large shape. The group works together to fit as many small shapes as possible within the borders of the large shape without overlapping any of the shapes. When children have finished filling the large shape, they can count how many of each small shape they used and how many shapes were used in total. For subsequent games, the children can try to choose and place shapes strategically so the group can fit more small shapes inside the large shape.
Teachers can tailor the Shapes game for use with the whole class, a small group, or individual children.

Reasons why I choosed this resource: The Shapes Game

The reason why I choosed this activity is because it is pretty easy to do and it is so practical; children would be able to start identifying the basic shapes and also to figure out how can they create them taking other shapes in order to form a new one, this will absolutely put their creativity to work. In the future when they start recognizing other shapes different to the basic ones, they would be able to use their previous knowledge in forming basic shapes to find out how to form a more complex one. This is a perfect example that math instruction is built on what children know, here we will need to take into account the children’s current knowledge in shapes in order to them to reach the next level in their progression that would be more complex shapes, also by using developmental progress and progress monitoring in order to find out children’s skills and progression.

I choose this website first of all because it is so complete, here you would find a funny game for every single math's subject and also by grades, they are full of colors and shapes that immediately attracts kid’s attention, I used it some time ago because someone tell me about it. It was pretty attractive for me, taking into account that I already know basic maths I found it funny and entertaining. There are a lot of things to do in this website and they provide you a bunch of learning resources, buy kids love to play and this is a good way to offer them fun and learning at the same time.
