Previously, I didn't have an understanding of the concept of sustainable development, nor have I made any contributions to environmental protection. However, I once participated in a zero waste Frisbee competition where they recycled plastic waste and turned it into towels to be given to the participants. They also picked up trash on the beach and made it into medals. I will incorporate the concept of sustainable development into my daily life from now on."

In my previous life, I didn't have much understanding of sustainability, but after taking two classes with Timothy, I found that it is a very important issue. Sustainability includes three aspects: social, environmental, and economic. Although these things may not have much to do with our daily lives, they are closely related to the future of each of us and the future of the planet.

The furniture made from plastic waste is colorful without the need for any additional coloring, making it perfect for children. I find this very interesting.
Here is their production process in brief: EcoBirdy collects plastic toys from schools, unpacks them in a covered workshop, and inspects them to ensure that no harmful substances, such as batteries and textiles, are present. Then, all the recyclable plastic toys are placed in a large container and transported to a specialized recycling center.
Source link: https://www.sohu.com/a/396478769_288591

My topic is related to film production. Before starting to research this topic, I didn't think about the harm that movies can cause to the environment, until I saw a set of data on a webpage: "According to the data from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, producing a one-hour TV program in the UK, whether it is a drama or non-drama film, will produce 13 tons of carbon dioxide. This is equivalent to the average CO2 emissions of an American in one year. A 2006 study by UCLA found that California's film and television industry produced 8.4 million tons of carbon dioxide, while the entire US film and television industry emitted as much as 15 million tons." I was shocked by the pollution caused by filming, the large amount of electricity used, the harm caused to the local environment by outdoor scenes, and some cases were simply appalling. Then I started looking for film companies that try to solve the problem, and I was glad that I found them. China's largest film studio "Hengdian" noticed this problem and updated a large number of solar power generation facilities in the studio to replace traditional power generation equipment. This can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 42,000 tons per year.

Website source of data:
1.https://m.sohu.com/a/370448876_100056703
2.https://m.sohu.com/a/641180906_121445826

1.For Monday to Thursday, my classmates and I studied English and sustainable development in MR. Timothy's class. On Monday, Glibb's reflective cycle was introduced, and on Tuesday we focused on resources and referencing. I had to take a day off on Wednesday to accompany my grandfather in the hospital, but I caught up with the CRAAP topic. It seems like we didn't learn any new concepts on Thursday. On Friday's class, I learned how to search for books using the school library program.

2.I feel that the content this week is gradually becoming more difficult, and I couldn't understand many of the words in class, so I had to use translation software. The homework pressure is also relatively high, especially the video assignment given on Friday.

3.I have learned a lot of new things this week, but my learning enthusiasm has decreased, and my attention in class has also declined. I need to correct this in a timely manner next week. The good thing is that I did well in self-learning after missing Wednesday's class.

4.I think a positive attitude is very important in learning, and I cannot become a passive learner.

5.I have learned new knowledge, new words, and new concepts. Many of these new things are related to our daily lives, and some knowledge can help me become a more environmentally friendly person. I need to work hard in my preparatory course to achieve my goal of entering UCA.

6.In the next week's study, I will plan my tasks and execute them accordingly. I think I don't need external resources to help me; I just need to work harder and focus more.

And I didn't have time to complete any homework either. Chinese funerals are so complicated and cumbersome. Many of last week's classes focused on how to give a good speech. I learned speaking skills such as starting a speech with facts, questions, or jokes to capture the audience's attention.

2.I was very sad because of my grandfather's passing. I couldn't concentrate in class, which was really bad. To be honest, I became very sad again while writing this weekly reflection...

3.I performed poorly last week, and I don't think there was anything I did well. In my first weekly reflection, I said I would focus more in the second week, but obviously, I didn't do that.

4.It seems that the reason why I performed poorly in class was because I was worried about my grandfather's health and his eventual passing. However, I need to try my best to pull myself together, focus in class, and participate more in classroom interactions.

5.The public speaking skills I learned last week were very helpful to me. I am an introverted person, and I lack confidence and get very nervous when it comes to socializing and giving speeches. However, through the speaking skills I learned, I realized that I couldn't show my lack of confidence and fear because it would only make my speech and social interactions worse.

6.This week, I will catch up on all the overdue assignments and prepare for the next presentation with my group members. Additionally, I will try my best to apply the public speaking skills I learned to my next presentation and my daily social interactions.
