The poem relates to Emily Dickinson because in the book it says that she loves to write poems about death or anything that has to do with death. In the poem it talks about soldiers dying and many lives lost after the battle. Also she is always writing about dark stuff and it relates to the poem. She usually doesn't have any rhyme in her poems unless it is talking about death.

Walt Whitman was born on may 31. Walt was a old man that was suffering from a stroke in 1873. He was self taught because he didn't like other people type of writing so he taught himself. In 1870 he published two new books. A interesting fact about him was he didn't support slavery. Even though he was a white man.
