In 2015, my parents got divorced and my mother moved to Greensboro, NC for three years. In those three years, I spent half of my time in Morganton, NC and the other half in Greensboro, NC, so it became a second home to me. My grandparents also live in Greensboro, so I have always been a frequent visitor of the city. I personally really enjoy the atmosphere in Greensboro because it's much more open-minded than my hometown, Morganton, NC.

I grew up about an hour down the mountain from Boone, NC and when I graduated high school, I chose to attend Appalachian State. Since moving to Boone a year ago, I've grown to love this town as my home and the people here as my family. Although Boone is considered a small mountain town, it was a big adjustment for me because my hometown is much smaller. Boone has opened so many doors for me that I didn't even know existed, and I'm so proud to call it home.

I was born and raised in Morganton, NC. This town is very small and rural, so I grew up with a very tight-knit community. Southern charm is no stranger here! Neither of my parents are originally from Morganton, but they both decided to move here because of how safe and quiet it is. Although I always complained about being raised in a small town, I'm so grateful to have been raised here because it made me the person I am today. Kindness, respect, and joy are always prioritized in Morganton's community, which has resulted in me strongly valuing all of these things.

This location is significant in Harjo's story because of the emotions she was facing at the time and because this place represents her journey of returning to what they once called home.

Perez was born in the Pacific island of Guam and lived there with his family until the age of 15. At 15, his family migrated to California, which resulted in Perez peeking others curiosity. In his poem "Off-island CHamorous", he writes about a conversation with his teacher in California that questioned him about being a citizen and speaking english. Perez responds by informing the teacher that Guam is a U.S. territory and therefore he is a citizen. This is just one example of how his roots in Guam had a large impact on him once migrating.

California is where Perez and his family migrated when he was just 15 years old. His poem "Off-Island CHamorus" discusses how his transition moving to California changed his perception of what home is as well as his cultural identity. For Perez, adjusting to California came with discomfort and the feeling of being lost, but it also opened his life up in numerous ways.
