Many SS can't read even in their first language. So they need to be taught different thinking skills first.
It also can help them during exams and seminars when they are steressed and are short on time.
More than that, nowadays we need to be able to analize huge amount of information.

We don't suppport the idea to stop teaching S&S. We should continue doing that.
As far as A2-B1 students are inexperienced in these technigues, our goal is to teach them how to do it for their own good. These skills are necessary for their tests and exams.
My personal experience in Fast reading allows me to save plenty of time on reading professional literature.
