https://bluevalleyk12.libguides.com/psm/psms/summer
Books give us wings. Books have wings. You can't see them, but they are there just the same. For some readers, books give them wings to understand the world that surrounds them. For others, a book's characters help them rise above bullying and peer pressure to discover pride and happiness in just being themselves. For still others, a book's wings help them cope with difficult situations -- an illness, disappointment, even a pandemic! How did the books you read give you "wings"--of courage, of understanding, or hope? How have books helped you escape the confines of your home and family? This summer, we'd like to know what you related to while you read! So instead of a book summary, jot us a note about how you connected to the books you read @ https://padlet.com/ltnocita/summer or write us a story inspired by a book you read!

Reading this book helped me fast forward time to when it is winter where I would be in school playing in the snow with my friends. Winter break would be right around the corner! Phobe and the other characters in the book encounter a storm in the middle of winter, this reminded me that Kansas has crazy weather too. One time it was snowing in July. I also am in love with mythical creatures and magic so having a unicorn as a main character made me super happy to read this book.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Vanee Pattani

Divergent is an amazing book!! I read it as an Ebook, and this has to be my favorite book I have read in 2020. There is a little bit of everything. There is suspense, thriller, mystery, and romance. I loved the story, and I kept on wondering what if our world was like the one shown in the book. Beatrice, or Tris is the main character, and I think I related or connected to her the most. I think if I were in her position, I would kinda think like her, or make similar choices like her. Except, if I took the aptitude test I don't think I would be chosen to be a Divergent, Dauntless, or Erudite. I think I would either be in Amity or Abnegation. I would give this book 4.95/5 stars. In the Ebook I read, there were 501 pages. I recommend this book to anyone who likes an exciting, and thrilling story. I also found out that Divergent is a book sequel. I am sooo excited to read the other books! I can't wait!

Edit: I watched the movie and it was pretty good, but I prefer the book over the movie because the movie skipped a lot of details.
-Vanee Pattani

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Vanee Pattani

I read the Maze Runner and it is an awesome book!! There is so much suspense and thriller that it kept me super excited and curious throughout the whole book. I loved how creative the author was with the story; with all the grievers, the maze, and the cliff. At first I was a little lost but then after reading a few chapters I was super intrigued in the book. The Maze Runner reminds me a lot of the book Hunger Games and Divergent; these books might have a similar theme going on. The author described everything with so much detail that it became easy to visualize. I love how James Dashner showed such clever characters. There was a LOT of violence, but I think violence is essential to these kind of books. I was a little disgusted because the violent parts were so detailed but I didn't mind it that much. I read it on a E-Book and it had 480 pages. The Maze Runner is part of a series, and I am definitely going to read the books ahead of this one. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes thrilling, suspenseful, and exciting books. I would give this book 4.3/5 stars.
-Vanee Pattani

Vanee Pattani

Five Feet apart is an interesting book. I am not sure I really liked it. I heard there is a movie about it, so I thought I should read the book first, if I ever were to watch the movie. I think some people would really like this book, but It was not very exciting for me. I thought it was really easy to predict the story ahead of me. I am not saying this book is boring, infact, I thought the characters of this book were really inspiring. Even though they have been through so much, they were still able to be happy and did not give up. I also really liked how the author gave different perspectives on the story. This book reminded me a lot of the book The Fault in our Stars. I think these two books were really similar. I would recommend this book to people who like inspirational, romantic, and maybe even sad books. I would give this book 3/5 stars. I read this book on a E-book and it had 280 pages.
-Vanee Pattani

Divergent is by far one of the best book I have read! I have read the hard copy version of this book. This book had my heart racing! There was so much suspense! Tris is the main character in this book. If I were to relate to Tris I would definitely not choose to be Divergent because according to the book being divergent is very risky and dangerous. Rather than being divergent I think that I would be Dauntless which is more towards bravery. This book was awesome and I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense and thriller books. Overall I would rate this book a 9.5/10.
-Sanjana Bhavanasi

This book is very relatable book for all of us since we are all going to be in 6th grade. Abigail is the main character who loves writing lists but loses luck when she gets stuck with the worst possible home room teacher and her bffs are in a different home room together. She tries to achieve her dream by making the Pom squad while trying to survive doing “the friendly letter assignment” with the school’s biggest outcast as her partner. She ends up being a alternate for the squad but her own bffs and the others on the squad were being rude to her. As the book went on, she began to realize that Gabby—the school’s biggest outcast— was a genius. Gabby had been going through a lot because her mom had died in 3rd grade and her father was in jail, her brother was looking after her. Near the end of the book she ends up loving “the friendly letter assignment” and no longer hangs out with Alli and Cami but she gets a better bff, Gabby. I would recommend this to everyone because it has suspense, drama, and is relatable.

Four, The Transfer, The Initiate, The Son, and The traitor: A Divergent Collection by Veronica Roth.

Vanee Pattani

If you have read my other review on the book Divergent, you know that I really liked that book. So I decided to check out and read the other collections of Divergent. I came across this book from Four's perspective!! Four is Tris's instructor in the book Divergent and I was really excited when my sister told me there was a book about him. The book was split into four parts: The Transfer, The Initiate, The Son, and The Traitor. I read all Four of the sections and the book is amazing as expected. I loved how I got to know more about Tobias (Four). I got to know more about how is dad treated him, and how his life was without a mom. I got to know more about Tris, Eric, Shauna, Jeanine, and many more characters that were also shown in the book Divergent. this book helped me understand how Four's and Tris's story connects. I do recommend reading Divergent before this book because I think things would make more sense that way. But overall, this book was really good and I would definitely read it again in the future. In the book I read, there were 290 pages. I give this book 4.7/5 stars.
-Vanee Pattani

Cinder is an astonishing book!! The main character of this book is Cinder who is a talented town cyborg mechanic. This story is about this deadly virus that spreads throughout Cinder's town. Sadly Cinder's sister had died from the plague which Cinder got blamed for even though she had done nothing. Cinder had an interesting past that gave her the immunity for this deadly virus. Since doctors found out that Cinder had immunity for the plague the doctors started to research her so that they could find a vaccine. If I were to relate to Cinder I would honestly be really scared and sad about everything that is going on. I would definitely recommend this book to people who love romance and fairy tale. Overall I would rate this book a 9/10 .
This book had 390 pages.
This book is part of a series and I cant wait to read the next book which is called Scarlet.
-Sanjana Bhavanasi

Vanee Pattani

The Giver is a great book! This book is about a boy named Jonas who happens to live in a society that is being controlled by the rules and tradition of The Elders. I loved the idea of this book because it was very unique and engrossing, which kept me interested throughout the whole book. One of the reasons I picked this book was because it earned the Newbery Medal, and I can definitely see why it earned such a famous title. I loved that the book was so different from the real world, yet the author made it sound so realistic. The depth of characterization made the story even better. This book has a really captivating plot and I recommend this book to everyone who likes exciting and futuristic novels. This book reminded me of Divergent. I think this is because both stories are really futuristic and organized by society. I read this book on a Ebook and it had 200 pages. I give this book 4.8/5 stars. And I think I might also check out some other books written by Lois Lowry, because I really liked his writing.
-Vanee Pattani

The very beginning was pretty interesting and I was curious to know what the book ahead of me will be like. But at some parts I got very bored and did not understand somethings in the book. Since I was kind of bored, I did not enjoy this book very much. But I have read some other reviews on this book and a LOT of people really liked this book, but I personally didn't find this book that interesting and exciting.

Vanee Pattani

Uglies is a very INTERESTING book! And I really liked it! I had never thought of the world divided into 2 communities: The Uglies and the Pretties. Basically this book is about a girl, Tally Youngblood. When a person turns sixteen, they get a a whole body changing surgery that turns them "Pretty." Tally's best friend, Peris, is 3 months older than Tally, and therefore he got the surgery first. After turning Pretty you go to this place where there is only fun, and partying, and you don't have to worry about anything. Tally was super excited about this and couldn't wait till her surgery. But then she met Shay. Shay and Tally had the same birthday, so they would turn pretty together, but Shay did NOT want to turn pretty. She did not like the idea of it at all. After the two 15-year-olds become good friends, Shay left Tally a note and ran away to Smoke, a place that was filled with Uglies and no one ever had to become pretty. Tally didn't seem too worried that Shay ran off. Then the day of her surgery, she came across the hardest choice. Help the doctors find Shay, or stay ugly for life. The decision she makes changes her life. I really loved the idea of this book, and it reminded me a lot of the Giver and Divergent. Maybe because of the futuristic ideas. I recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery, and exciting books. I rate this book 4.5/5. In the book I read, there were 501 pages.
-Vanee Pattani

Insurgent By: Veronica Roth

Sanjana Bhavanasi

I have read the book Insurgent! This book is the continuation of the book Divergent. I really enjoyed reading this thrilling book. I found this book very interesting but personally I liked divergent a little bit more than Insurgent. This story was about a girl named Tris that overcame many of her fears and went through many many simulations that she feared. Tris's goal in insurgent is to get rid of factions. Honestly speaking I thought this book would not be that good but after I got a few pages into the book it was really interesting and i wanted to keep reading. I would rate this book a 9.2/10. I have read the hard copy version of the book and it had 525 pages. I would definitely recommend this book to people who likes suspense and thriller. This book is part of a series and the next book is Allegiant which I can't wait to read!!
-Sanjana Bhavanasi

Red Queen by: Victoria Aveyard

Vanee Pattani

Red Queen is an amazing book! Red Queen is bout Mare Barrow, a 17 year old girl who lives in a world where status depends on the color of your blood. people who have red blood are commoners, and those with silver blood are royals who have special powers. Mare is a Red living in the Stilts with her younger sister, mother, and father. Her brothers are off fighting for the Silvers in the ongoing war. Mare spends her days in the Stilts waiting for the day she must join the war at age 18. One day Mare discovers that she has silver blooded abilities, even though she is red blooded. Everything changes after that. I loved the idea of this book and it reminded me so much of the book Uglies. this is because there were also 2 communities in Uglies, the "Pretties" and the "Uglies" and I see the "Pretties" as the silver blooded if I were to compare this book. This book was so exciting to read and I would recommend this book to anyone who likes exciting and suspenseful books. Red Queen had 390 pages. I rate this book 4.5/5 stars.
-Vanee Pattani

Cinder by: Marissa Meyer

Vanee Pattani

Cinder is such a good book! Its about a cyborg names Cinder, who is a talented mechanic. One day a deadly virus suddenly spreads to Cinders town. Cinder's step sister gets the plague, and her stepmother, Adri makes her volunteer to make doctors experiment her to find the antidote for the plague. After volunteering, Cinder finds out that she is immune to the virus. Her life changes after that. This book reminds me so much of Cinderella. I think the author got inspired by Cinderella and decided to right a Cinderella book with a big plot twist. My friend, Sanjana recommended this book to me, and I am so glad I read it, because it was a really engrossing book. I love the other books the author writes too! Marissa Meyer has written some of my favorite books, including Renegades. She is definitely one of my all time favorite authors. I could relate to this book, because the coronavirus is going around, and this book itself was about a virus. I recommend this book to people who like fairy tale, suspenseful, and romantic books. This book 390 pages, and I rate it 4.7/5 stars!
-Vanee Pattani

Vanee Pattani

Counting by 7's is a great book! it is about Willow Chance, a twelve-year-old girl who has been gifted from a young age. Willow lives in California and comes home from school one day to the news that her adoptive parents have been killed in a car accident. This book is about, Willow's grief and how she adjusts to her new life. This is a really sad book. I usually like books that are a bit more fast paced, suspenseful, exciting and thrilling, but I really enjoyed this book and found out that I DO like sad books. This reminded me of the book Wish. I feel like the writing style and everything is really similar to that book. Willow's favorite number is 7, and she would always count by 7's when she was nervous or something. 7 is my favorite number too! It has been my lucky number since I was little. Overall, I really like this book, and I recommend it people who like sad and inspiring books. I rate this book 4.5/5. Counting by 7's had 384 pages.
-Vanee Pattani

Sanjana Bhavanasi

The book "Fish in a Tree" is an awesome book! I really enjoyed reading this book. The main characters of this book are Ally, Keisha and Albert. In this story Ally, Keisha and Albert are in 6t grade. This book is about a girl named Ally who always has trouble in school. Later in the story she finds out that she has a reading disorder called dyslexia. Throughout the book the author explains how she gets better at reading and overcomes her fears. I did not think that this book would be good but after I read it i really liked it! I would rate this book a 4.8/5.
This book has 320 pages. The main quote from this book is “Everyone is smart in different ways. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend the rest of its life thinking it's stupid.” I am so glad I read this book which was recommended to me by my friend, Vanee! I would definitely recommend this book to people who like realistic fiction!
-Sanjana Bhavanasi

One book I loved that I read this summer was Keeper of Lost Cities. It is now in my top 5 favorite books because it had so much mystery and suspense and you were always wanting to turn the page and find out more. It was about a girl named Sophie Foster who was a telepath and these people found her and told her she has magical powers because she's an elf. Now, they take her to this whole new world where she learns how to control her magic and learn how to use it for the greater good.
