Know that your courage in the face of oppression will forever etch your names in the tapestry of resistance, among the echoes of tyranny and the chains that bind. Like the powerful rivers, your indomitable spirit will create a road to emancipation through the most difficult terrain. You stand as beacons of hope, Men work together whether they work together or apart defying the odds, with unity as your sword and the fire of justice in your hearts. Remember that even the darkest night must give way to the light of a new day in your pursuit of liberty. Your sacrifice now will nourish the soil of a better tomorrow, and together, we will triumph over the tribulations of the Spanish tyranny and usher in the dawn of Filipino independence.

I would remind the Katipuneros of the importance of unity and sacrifice for the greater good. Despite the challenges they face, I would encourage them to never give up, as "one step backwards may be a step forward" in the grand scheme of things. The paradox of "one step backwards" being a way to move forward illustrates the notion of how things may seem counterintuitive to achieving success. This message serves as an inspiration for the Katipuneros to continue fighting for their cause and never losing hope, even when the odds seem insurmountable.

My dear Katipuneros,

I know that our nation has been oppressed by the Spanish colonizers for far too long, and the urge to break free is stronger than ever. However, I urge you to think carefully before taking any rash actions. The path to independence is a long and difficult one, and the sacrifices required may be greater than we can imagine. Let us not allow ourselves to be consumed by anger and hatred, but instead, let us strive for a future of unity and progress.

May our spirits be as fierce as our courage, and may our actions be guided by reason and compassion. May the Philippines soon be free from the shackles of colonialism, and may our people thrive as one under the banner of revolution.

Sincerely,

A fellow Filipino

In the above letter, the oxymoron "fierce courage" is used in a figurative, and rhetorical way to emphasize the need for both strength and discipline in the fight for independence. It also uses a rhetorical question "let us not allow ourselves to be consumed by anger and hatred" to advise the katipuneros to not let themselves become blind with rage, but to always consider the consequences of their actions.

Manalo, Julian Zachary

In 1892 Filipinos interested in the overthrow of Spanish rule founded an organization following Masonic rites and principles to organize armed resistance and terrorist assassinations within a context of total secrecy. It operated as an alternative Filipino government complete with a president and cabinet. When Andrés Bonifacio assumed control over the organization, it became much more aggressive. With the Grito de Balintawak, the Philippine revolution began. Filipinos ripped up their tax and citizenship documents and started fighting through Luzon. Emilio Jacinto commanded Katipunan's troops in several decisive struggle where both sides sustained major losses. The Katipunan movement frightened the Spanish and their supporters in the country. Consequently, the authorities arrested or exiled some 4,000 rebels, not to mention the myriad executions. At this time, the Filipinos were by no means united; Emilio Aguinaldo served as president of the insurgent government while José Rizal headed the Liga Filipina.

I won’t know how truly hard it is to go against dangerous people. Please acknowledge that what you did was not in vain. Today, Philippines is a free country. However, if I could go back in time, I would stop you from doing any reckless things against Aguinaldo. I would warn you that being against him would mean your downfall. I would warn you about what is about to come and to prepare. At the very least we still have our freedom. It was hard to get our freedom before. You still fought back. Find and know your enemies weak spots. Show them what the Katipuneros are made of. Work together whether they work together or apart to stop the fight. But always remember, look for a bright light. That light will guide you to victory and peace. I appreciate that you are here to provide us the freedom we needed for many years. Thank you for the Katipuneros who sacrificed their own lives just for us. In this letter, I really do want to show my gratitude to you heroes.

Though I may not be there to stop nor warn you about what's coming, this also serves as a reminder to those who may read this.

Dear Katipuneros,
During Spanish rule, I'm with you in your fight for freedom. Your rebellion shakes the wrong treatment like a powerful and quiet storm. Your unity is a solid and fearless message against the Spaniards as you face challenging times together. Thank you for standing together against the tough times, being strong when things were difficult, and showing us the freeway to the Philippines. I can only hope your fight for our independence doesn't resort to violence but rather through peaceful means; when you demonstrate your bravery, know that your sacrifices mean something. With much respect, I'm standing with you, Katipuneros, in making the Philippines an accessible place.

All of us are absolutely unsure of the result of this battle for our independence. In thoughts and in prayers, I will continue to support your cause.

Recently, I’ve learned more about your honorary president, Dr. Jose Rizal, this concept he quoted in both his novels “the pen is mightier than the sword” was quite inspiring to me. However, it is an open secret that a lot of Filipinos find Dr. Rizal’s work to be a call for revolution.

Hopefully, this letter will safely reach you and inspire the Katipunan or at least keep the morale up. I hope with all my heart that we drive out the Spaniards once and for all. After all, in this war we are facing, the only constant is change. Godspeed.

The paradoxes I used for this letter are:
-the beginning of the end
- the pen is mightier than the sword
-the only constant is change

The oxymorons I used for this letter are:
- absolutely unsure
- open secret

This is a message for your bravery. We Filipinos are very proud of you all for defending the country and for trying to achieve freedom or "Kalayaan". Under the chaos of colonial rule, your bravery shines like an old gem. Remember that the strength of the pen or words can be just as strong as the power of the sword as you progress toward independence. Because they contain the potential to reawaken a nation's dormant spirit, let your words serve as the compass that directs your actions. We truly thank you for awakening Nationalism in the hearts of the Filipinos. Keep the light of hope alive because the dawn of freedom is never truly out of reach, even in the darkest of nights.

All those bloody fights and sleepless nights were all worth it, for the Philippines is now a free country. We can now choose what suits our people; we have the right to vote, protest, and express our thoughts and feelings. I want to remind you always to be kind and stay focused on your goal, to use your skills in fighting for good and not for your benefit. Maintain a good relationship with your peers, for the bitter-sweet taste of unity will help us achieve the freedom we deserve.
