This grew from his paranoia and desire to obtain absolute power over Russia. His main targets were political figures and their followers. Stalin had sent someone to kill his friend because he was gaining too much popularity, politically. Stalin also sent over 20 million Russians to labor camps, Nearly half of them died.These horrific events took place between the years 1934-1939. Stalin used the deaths of popular political figures and many other Russians to carry out his terror.

Stalin managed to take control of the state's food production by introducing collectivization. Basically collectivization is when Stalin took over people's farms and food products.
