His actions are in complete contrast to the mission of equity Code.org claims to work towards, and a slap in the face for it to come so soon after a Black teacher was tased in cuffs and died.

Whether they had this planned or not, they should have respect for the person who passed away and for the family. A statement could have been released offering condolences and that press conferenced should have been cancelled. The gusto he had on stage was disturbing in light of what happened. Has he not heard anything about how traumatizing it can be to watch or participate in reenactments?

It was direct response to recent incidents. Otherwise, he would have changed the narrative and message prior to the presentation. He did not care about the messaging and ignored the impact on Code.org. NO "less lethal" measure can be identified as "safe". An AED is considered a life-saving measure. Using a Black officer in the display?? Tasers are not inherently safe.

When I saw this had happened, it seemed to me a gross oversight of the effects of tasers as weapons. I did some research into taser after reading this and while discussing this with my students and found that death by taser is much more common than I'd initially thought. This alone seems like a conflict of interest for someone who purports to be heading up the importance of CS education. I have worked pretty extensively with Erin Peach at code.org toward CS ed accessibility and it really upset me that there hasn't been a significant statement from them on this. Maybe I am wrong in that, but I haven't seen it yet.

At first I was very upset with the whole thing. I did very in-depth research of what happened. I was torn as Code.org is what began my journey of Equity. I am also a code.org facillitator and as such I was deeply hurt that Hadi went on stage even after knowing what happened just weeks earlier. He is the face of Code.org and as such anything he does reflects on code.org. I feel he should have cancelled his appearance because it is political and this does retract from the mission of code.org. I feel Hadi needs to make a formal apology for going forward with his event knowing what just happened. I also feel that the police around our contry need to be properly trained because to taze a man in handcuffs six times is going to kill anyone. That is just rediculous.

Then he continues to make it worse with his insensitive twitter comments. What I am hearing now more than ever is that this is not the first time he has engaged in this type of activity that reveals his stance on issues concerning, racial justice. I hope we can hold him accountable and ask him to step down as CEO of Code or at least start with a very public apology.

Utter contempt. Our kids deserve better. CSTA needs to invest in more coding platforms like Scratch, Kodable, Bootup, and CodeSpark Academy and ask for Hadi to step down. While our district has different options besides Code.org, not every district is as lucky. It shows the need to monitor how much we invest in one vendor to be the face of CS education. I'm livid because so many students should not have to choose between their education and withstanding this horrific behavior.
